Counselor's Corner.....
Character Education

  • Our character education program is called Core Essentials. The Core Essentials character plan differs from other character programs in that each trait is referred to as a “value.” Each value is presented on a monthly basis instead of a week-to-week basis, because children need time and space to understand character issues.
  • We will be using the morning announcements as a format to emphasize the value school-wide.
  • At home, you can help put into practice the value of the month. Each month, a table card will be sent home in your child’s folder. This table card is designed to be folded and placed in a convenient location at home. It is used to encourage family discussions and activities about our value each month.
  • Finally, teachers are encouraged to nominate those students who they have seen showing the character values we are sharing.

Each student nominated will receive a Chick-Fil-A coupon for free chicken nuggets and will be placed in a drawing for a yard sign saying, “Carroll Elementary School is Proud of My Child.”
Our values are:

  • September— Initiative
  • October— Respect
  • November— Uniqueness
  • December— Peace
  • January— Orderliness
  • February— Kindness
  • March— Courage
  • April— Joy
  • May— Patience

A NOTE FROM THE CES HEALTH OFFICE

Warmer weather has increased the number of health office visits due to insect bites, sunburn, playground accidents, and mild dehydration. Please be sure to apply sunscreen to your children with an SPF of at least 15. Also, make sure to talk to them about the signs and symptoms of dehydration. Remember, if you are thirsty, you are already partially dehydrated. Send water bottles to be used before and after P.E., recess, and at lunch.

The teachers and staff have discussed playground safety with your students, however we would appreciate your support by continuing to reinforce this at home. Many head injuries and more serious sprains and fractures can be avoided if extra care is taken.

Field Day is scheduled for May 30th. I will need a few volunteers to assist me with Basic First Aid. Please stop by the health office and sign-up if you are interested.

Happy Spring !
