Do you have a bird cage
sitting in the attic from pet of long ago?
Is that old aquarium in the garage just getting in your way? If so, the biology teachers of CHS could use
these items. If you have an old cage or
aquarium that you are no longer using, send an email to Keeley Lowery, loweryk@cisdmail.com. Your donation would be greatly
appreciated!

Looking
for: Dragon Classic Chair
Each
fall, the PTSO has an annual fundraiser in order to support the needs of the
staff at both the Senior High and High School. This event has been typically
held in October and is a supper with an auction on one evening followed by a
golf event the next day. We are looking for an individual who is willing to
chair next year's event (or perhaps two individuals who are willing to
co-chair).
If
you are up to the challenge, ready to work with a lot of great people and ready
to help raise a lot of money for our schools, please contact Priscilla Danner at
tpd.plus6@verizon.net.
Thanks for considering this
request.

EXAMS &
EXEMPTIONS - FYI
It's
finally here - semester EXAM WEEK at CHS/CSHS! We've been publishing the
schedule in the DD for quite some time so we hope you've made sure your student
has no appointments during exams this week. Remember, we cannot
allow students to be dismissed early from campus since classes cannot be
interrupted during exams.
And for those of you with 11th & 12th grade students, we
thought you might like to review the offical CSHS EXAM
EXEMPTION policy. Every student would love the
opportunity to exempt out of their final exam but the ability to do so takes
more than having an 'A' average in a given class. And even though the Exemption
policy might not apply to your student now, check it out so you know what
options are available for your student in the future. As always, if you have
any questions, check out the CHS guidance office webpage (9th/10th
grade) or the CSHS Guidance office webpage (11/12th
grade). |

One Act Play -
Cuckoo's Nest
Carroll
Theatre Department's One Act Play for the 2008 season is One
Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest by Dale Wasserman. Based on Ken Kesey's bestselling novel of the
same name and later made into an Academy Award-winning film starring Jack
Nicholson, the play explores the injustice of treatment on mentally ill
patients.
If
your student is interested in auditioning for the play, have them fill out an
audition packet (available in the CSHS Theatre Dept) by Monday, January 14, in
order to be considered for an audition time later in the week. Audition schedule as follows:
·
Monday,
Jan 14: 3:30 p.m. - 5:00 p.m. CSHS Auditorium*
·
Tuesday,
Jan 15: 3:30 p.m. - 5:00 p.m. CSHS Auditorium*
·
Friday,
Jan 18: Final callbacks will be from 11:30 a.m. - 1:00 p.m. CSHS
Auditorium (if needed)*
We
want to encourage everyone to audition - no roles have been pre-cast, nor does a student have to be currently
enrolled in a CSHS theater class in order to audition. For more
details on the play and the type of parts available, check out the following website or contact CSHS Theater
Directors Stacie Martinsen (Martins@cisdmail.com) or Roald Martinsen (MartinR@cisdmail.com)
* not everyone will be called

Helping
Invisible Children
Invisible
Children is an organization that helps support schools in Uganda, Africa,
and Carroll has adopted the Pabbo Secondary School. Our CHS/CSHS students are
now working towards raising money that will; 1) help the Uganda students gain an
education; 2) pay for clean water. During the week of Jan 28th, students will be
selling Invisible Children T-shirts for $15.00 during lunch or
anytime in RM B111. Or you can order
your shirts directly from Invisible Children sponsor Annie Wilson at WilsonA@cisdmail.com. All proceeds go towards helping the Pabbo
Secondary School. For more information
on this wonderful organization, check out the Invisible Children website. Thank you for your support!
Modeling the Invisible T-shirts are CHS

The
National Ocean Sciences Bowl is a timed competition for teams of high school
students involving critical thought questions and "rapid memory recall". Question topics cover the biology, physics,
geology and chemistry of the oceans as well as related geography, technology,
history, and current events.
CHS/CSHS
students who were interested in competing in the NOS Bowl have been
meeting weekly after-school with CHS Science Club sponsor Bill
Griffith since early October. The final team of five students were
selected based on their test scores on mock challenges, overall knowledge of the
material and consistent attendance to the weekly 'Dolphin Challenge'
meetings.
If
the CHS team places first at the A&M meet, they will then travel to the
National Finals of the NOS Bowl in Seward, Alaska, on April 25-27th.
Thanks
to all who have participated in this event. New horizons are in the
future! For more information on the
National Ocean Science Bowl, check out their website.

Good news from the Area Band tryouts last Saturday in
Abilene - - 12 Dragon Band students qualified for the trip to Abilene for the
Area Band tryouts and SIX students received the impressive honor of being named
to the All State
Band (they will join Alex Clark, who previously earned a spot in
the All State Jazz Band). Three others were named First Alternate and several
others were 2nd and 3rd Alternates. Thousands of band students from across the
state try to achieve this ultimate accomplishment, but only two percent of the
students that start the audition process actually qualify to advance to the
state level.
The
seven All-State band students will be traveling to San Antonio in February, for
the final chair placement and then several days of clinics and the final
concerts. Please congratulate these students on their tremendous
accomplishments.
