Check it
out!
Attention soon-to-be 15 or 16 year
olds
Students, if you are turning 15 or 16 over Spring Break week, and
want to get your permit or driver's license some time during Spring Break, you
are going to need a signed TEA form from school. So please plan accordingly - turn in your TEA
request at the front office no later than Thursday, March 13th, in order
to be sure the signed TEA form is ready for you by Friday, March
14th.

Report Cards
CHS Parents - If your student did not get a copy of their report
card, it may be in the CHS library. Until the end of the year we will be
holding report cards until library overdue books and fines are cleared up. Not
all report cards were pulled this 6 weeks due to time limitations, so you may
get a phone call concerning outstanding overdue books despite the fact that your
child did receive their report card. Thanks for your cooperation and help in
reminding students to clear their accounts. We know they are busy and often
forget to do this!

It was snowing heavily outside Thursday, but the CSHS teachers
and staff were partaking in tropical food and soaking in the warm atmosphere at
the PTSO appreciation luncheon in the library. Pictured is Coach
Ondrasek enjoying his share of Hawaiian food. Special thanks to the CSHS PTSO Hospitality
committee for providing such delicious fare for our wonderful CSHS
staff!

'AP or NO AP?'
The AP
Booster Club is proud to announce that their annual Spring College
Panel will be held on Thursday, April
10th, at 6:00 pm in the CSHS SAC. Becci Rollins from the CSHS Guidance Office,
along with students, parents, and teachers, will host a panel discussion to
answer any questions or concerns about Honors, PAP and AP classes. For
example: What were the challenges, surprises, and rewards of taking an AP or
Honors class? How has taking an AP or Honors class impacted the
students' ability to chose, apply and get admitted to their college of choice?
The panel's experiences may help your student decide what Honors or AP path
would work best for them. So mark your
calendars and please bring your questions and/or concerns on April 10th - all
are welcome! Contact Vlucius@verizon.net for any
further info.
And
parents, the March meeting for the AP Boosters Club will be held this
Wednesday, March 12th at 9:30 am in the CSHS Library. The AP Boosters
Club welcomes anyone interested in being a part of the club to attend the
meeting - they are presently seeking to fill a few board positions, or are happy
just to have more people involved in the club.
For more information, contact Victoria Lucius at Vlucius@verizon.net

Reminder about the CHS
Library
Because of
remodeling, none of the student computers are on our network, so there is
no printing or internet access available in the CHS
library. Students doing last-minute work on campus have been very
disappointed at this lack of access. Please remind them of this state of affairs
and stress that they will need to do some advance planning to successfully turn
in assignments that involve computers.

Coffee w/the Counselors
This Tuesday, March
11th
8:30 a.m. - 9:30
a.m.
CSHS Library
The
CSHS counselors invite parents to come have coffee and participate in a question
and answer session regarding course selection and planning for the 2008-09
school year. This is a great opportunity
for our incoming junior parents (current sophomore parents) to meet the CSHS
counselors and learn more CSHS for next year. If you have any questions, please
the CSHS Guidance Office at 817.949.5813.
CAMPUS CHATS
Colleges and universities from around the country
visit Carroll Senior High School in order to visit with our students. This is a
very good opportunity for juniors and seniors (and parents!) to talk with a
school representative and obtain information on admissions and the college
experience in general. Please encourage your students to attend these Campus
Chats even if they have selected a different college to attend. The general
information and having questions answered can be very helpful in making your
student comfortable with the transition from high school to college. All
Campus Chats are from 1:00 pm - 1:40 pm unless otherwise noted and are
held in the CSHS Guidance College & Career Center.

 Dear CHS/CSHS Parents
-
Hard to believe but it's time for Daylight Savings Time already! Don't
forget to set your clocks ahead one hour before going to
bed tonight, Saturday, March 8th.
Also, Spring Break starts Monday, March 17th and we don't
return back to school until TUESDAY, March 25th (Monday, the 24th, is a
'bad weather day' that we luckily didn't need to use, although it was
close!)
Thanks and have a good week.

MANDATORY
FITNESS TESTING
Beginning
this spring, CISD and all other school districts across Texas
will begin a mandatory physical fitness assessment known as FITNESSGRAM for students in grades
3-12. Results of these student
assessments must be reported to the Texas Education Agency. The assessment, which was introduced through
Senate Bill 530 by Senator Jane Nelson, R-Flower Mound, is a new annual
requirement. CISD will comply with the legislation as
follows:
·
All
students enrolled in physical education or athletics will be given the
assessments during those class periods.
·
Campus
staff members will work with students who are not enrolled in physical education
or athletics to schedule a time for the assessment.
·
The
following areas will be assessed per Texas Education Agency guidelines: Aerobic
capacity, body composition, muscular strength, endurance and
flexibility
·
Results
will be sent to parents at the end of the school year.
For overall information regarding the FITNESSGRAM initiative, please check out their website.

AP EXAMS -

For
those of you with students in AP classes: Students need

Monday, March 3 through Friday, March 14. Registration at CSHS will be held during
lunch (1:00 - 1:40 pm) in front of the CSHS Library windows during lunch. Students at CHS may register during the same
timeframe at the CHS Guidance Office.
Each test will cost $54.00; make checks payable to CSHS or CHS (and this
is a reduction in cost over last year); please note the student's name on the
check. For an AP
Exam registration form, with a list of all the tests and dates offered,

EXEMPT FROM
FINAL EXAMS?
Although final exams are still a
couple months away, those of you with 11th & 12th grade students need to
make sure your are aware of the offical CSHS EXAM
EXEMPTION policy. Every student would love the
opportunity to exempt out of their final exam but the ability to do so takes
more than having an 'A' average in a given class. And even though the Exemption
policy might not apply to your student now, check it out so you know what
options are available for your student in the future. As always, if you have
any questions, check out the CHS guidance office webpage (9th/10th
grade) or the CSHS Guidance office webpage (11/12th
grade). |

NHS Update -
Sophomores
All
prospective 10th grade NHS inductees (you received a letter in the mail at your
home address) were invited to submit a resume no later than March 7, 2008. Because of the weather situation, the
deadline has been extended to Monday, March 10, 2008. The resume application is
posted online and hard copies are available
in the CHS Guidance Office.
Please be careful to complete the resume completely and correctly,
including the essay and parent and student signatures. The resume should
be dropped off at the CHS Guidance Office.
The next step in the process is for the CHS
Faculty Council to review the resumes for evidence of activity in all
areas. Next, the CHS faculty and staff
will review all prospective inductees for citizenship. Dates for invitation to induct and the
actual induction will be finalized and announced next week. If you have any questions, please contact
Becci Rollins, CHS NHS advisor, at rollinsr@cisdmail.com
