SAVE A
LIFE...DONATE BLOOD
CSHS is hosting a blood
drive with Carter BloodCare
on Thursday, Dec.
6th from 8 am - 4 pm
at Carroll Senior High.
Please be a part of this
life-saving project! The
Carter BloodCare is the
local blood bank that
provides 96% of all blood
transfusion needs for the
Metroplex and surrounding 56
counties. It requires around
1,100 donors per day to meet
the growing blood needs of
our area and it is only made
possible through the
generosity of the donors
from our community. One out
of every three people will
need blood at some time in
their life. Blood from each
donor is separated into
three elements; red cells,
plasma and platelets,
touching and saving three
different lives.
All
donors receive:
· T-shirt
· Mini-physical
including blood pressure and
iron level check at the time
of donation and cholesterol
results following their
donation.
If you would like to donate
blood,
to sign up and select a time
that works for you. If you have
any questions, contact the StuCo
(Student Council) hotline at
817-949-5853 (walk-ins will be

appointments will be taken
first).

DRAGON PLAYOFFS!
Many of you have been emailing, hungry for
some play-off game details but much of the
specifics (e.g. where, when, etc) are only
determined a week in advance. However here
is some information you might find helpful:
- The TEXAS 5A Football
website
provides all sorts of information about
5A football - players to watch, results,
etc. so check it out if you'd like a
little more detail about football
state-wide. FYI - our Dragons are in
Division II, Region 1.
-
Click here to see a list of
all of our Dragon Varsity players and
their position and jersey numbers, so
you know who made that great catch,
tackle, etc.
Next play-off game will be Friday,
November 23rd and our opponent will be
Cedar Hill - game time TBA.
Pre-game tickets will be sold from 10
a.m. to 2 p.m. Tuesday, November 20 and
Wednesday, November 21 at Dragon Stadium
only - due to the fall break
holiday. Dragon Stadium is located at
1085 S. Kimball Avenue in Southlake.
Games will be broadcast on radio station
KKGM 1630 AM. Broadcasts can be heard
online at
www.kkgmam.com.

Did you Know? . . Excessive Absences
Did you know that per the Texas Education
Association, a student MUST be in attendance
for 90% of the days a class is offered?
This means that a CISD student cannot have
more than 8 absences in a double block class
(a class that meets every day) and no
more than 4 absences in all other classes.
But what constitutes EXCUSED absences (i.e.
those that are not counted towards
excessive abssences) as far as the State of
Texas is concerned? Excused absences are
any of the following:
- Absences due to doctor visits (a
doctor note is required)
- Religious holy days (parent note
required)
- Family emergencies/funerals (parent
notice)
- Required appearances in court or
legal proceedings (documentation
required)
- College visit (documentation
required - pick up form in CHS Guidance
Office or CSHS Attendance Office
before you go)
- School-related excused activities
(athletics, field trip, etc.)
So what happens if a student has more
than the allowed absences per course? The
student and their family are contacted by
the Assistant Principals' office to
determine how the student can make up the
time, either by attending before/after
school tutorials or Friday night detention.
If the student does not make up the time,
the student will be denied credit for that
course. Ample notification and time is
given to any student who has excessive
absences so they can make up the missed time
and receive course credit.
If you are unsure how many absences your
student has, log on to the FAMILY
ACCESS to check your student's
attendance numbers. If you have
problems logging in, or have not yet
registered for FAMILY ACCESS, please
call 817-949-8260 or send an email to
family@cisdmail.com.

Battle of the Boxes!
Don't forget - the CEREAL competition is
about to begin! And Grapevine wants revenge
for last year...they're gearing up to donate
more boxes of cereal than Carroll and we
can't let that happen! So send in with your
student at least one box of name brand kids
cereal and drop it off in the lobby or at
the cafeteria door anytime
between Monday, November 26th thru Thursday,
Dec 13th. And it's best to send in
recognizable cereals that kids like, even if
not the most nutritious choice.
All cereal donated will be
included in
'Christmas is for Children' family food
baskets so that children have something they
enjoy, since cereal is often too expensive
for families to purchase
regularly. Donations will be counted each
week to see who is winning the competition
between Carroll and Grapevine -
your donations will be greatly appreciated
by many!
