SAVE A LIFE...DONATE BLOOD

CSHS is hosting a blood drive with Carter BloodCare on Thursday, Dec. 6th from 8 am - 4 pm at Carroll Senior High.  Please be a part of this life-saving project!  The Carter BloodCare is the local blood bank that provides 96% of all blood transfusion needs for the Metroplex and surrounding 56 counties. It requires around 1,100 donors per day to meet the growing blood needs of our area and it is only made possible through the generosity of the donors from our community. One out of every three people will need blood at some time in their life. Blood from each donor is separated into three elements; red cells, plasma and platelets, touching and saving three different lives.

 All donors receive:

·         T-shirt

·         Mini-physical including blood pressure and iron level check at the time of donation and cholesterol results following their donation.

If you would like to donate blood, click here to sign up and select a time that works for you.  If you have any questions, contact the StuCo (Student Council) hotline at 817-949-5853 (walk-ins will be accepted but those with appointments will be taken first).

GO DRAGONS!

WISHES COME TRUE . . .

Dragon Classic

Following the great success of last month's Dragon Classic that raised $88,000, the Carroll High and Senior High Schools' PTSO presented checks totaling more than $44,000 at two receptions this week.

On Monday, November 12th, Principal Mr. Rick Westfall received $22,942.72 to grant teacher wish list items at Carroll High School, including foreign language software, computers, printers, dictionaries, and science needs.

Then on Wednesday, November 14th, Dr Danny Presley, Principal of Carroll Senior High School accepted a check for $21,256.99 which will  fund a new sound system for the gymnasium, dance mirrors, audio visual equipment, reference books and protective technology furniture amongst other things.

A further $44,000 will be given to Carroll Athletic Booster Club later this month.

Now in its sixth year, the Dragon Classic is a two-day auction and golf tournament which raises funds for academic and fine arts needs at both High School campuses and athletic requirements for grades seven through twelve.  It has evolved into one of the most successful fundraisers on the CISD calendar bringing more than $330,000 of extra funding directly to where it is most needed.

Principal of Carroll High School, Rick Westfall, recognizes the benefit the event brings to his and other schools in the district.  "The Dragon Classic has played a crucial role in funding our teachers' needs from year to year," he says.  "This impacts positively on the educational process in our classrooms, fine arts, and sporting arenas.  With these gifts, the Dragon Classic continues to be an integral cog in the fundraising machine.  Thanks, Dragon Classic."

Battle of the Boxes!
cereal

Don't forget - the CEREAL competition begins today!  And Grapevine wants revenge for last year...they're gearing up to donate more boxes of cereal than Carroll and we can't let that happen!  So send in with your student at least one box of name brand kids cereal and drop it off in the lobby or at the cafeteria door anytime between Monday, November 26th thru Thursday, Dec 13th.  And it's best to send in recognizable cereals that kids like, even if not the most nutritious choice.

All cereal donated will be included in 'Christmas is for Children' family food baskets so that children have something they enjoy, since cereal is often too expensive for families to purchase regularly. Donations will be counted each week to see who is winning the competition between Carroll and Grapevine - your donations will be greatly appreciated by many!

Swimming

The Dragons left "smoke on the water" over the Nov. 17th week-end at the North Tisca Invitational Swimming & Diving Meet in Dallas, Texas at the Loos Natatorium.  Seventy-four of our Varsity Dragons were eligible to compete in the meet with 37  on the women's team, and 41 of the men's team scoring in this very prestigious meet! The Southlake Carroll Girl's Team finished 1st overall and the Southlake Carroll Boy's Team finished 4th.

This was the first time that Carroll has ever won a title at the North Tisca Invitational, and the first time Carroll's Girl's Team has ever defeated Plano Senior High.  So....our Girl's Team is indeed, "Makin' History" to this point in the season.  It was a tremendous "team" effort as the Dragons did not crown even one individual champion, but were excellent in the team competition.

The Dragons had many scoring swims, including 11 of 12 relays that made it back for Finals and scored team points!  And every relay swam faster in Finals than in Prelims!!  Some especially noteworthy performances were:

Girls 200 Free Relay       L. Ginder, C.Lapp, R. Ausdenmoore, L. Cowperthwaite 2nd 1:39.57**

Girls 400 Free Relay       C.Singley, L. Cowperthwaite, C.Dunlap, C.Baran  3rd  3:36.40**  school record

Boys 400 Free Relay       W.Singley, C.Nolan, D.Mays, A.Goss    3rd   3:14.19**

Claire Singley                2nd 500 free  4:58.97**   9th 200 free   1:52.98**

Caitlin Baran          4th 200 IM 2:07.08**       5th 100 breast 1:06.29**

Wil Singley                    2nd  200 IM 1:51.91***       school record

                                        2nd  100 free   45.64***     tied school record

Tremendous job Dragon Swimmers and Divers!  The Dragon Swim/Dive team is coached by Kevin Murphy, Paul Murphy, Andrea Schuman, and Carolyn Hyrochuck.
