ART CONTEST - VASE
logo

The Visual Art Scholastic Event (VASE) is sponsored by the Texas Art Education Association (TAEA) and is the only 'UIL-like' art competition held in the state of Texas each year.   This year's contest for high schools in our area is scheduled for February 16th at Fossil Ridge High School.  Those who enter will be competing against other high school students who have taken the same amount of art courses.   A professional artist will interview each student, asking specific questions about their submitted artwork (most interviews last 5-10 minutes).  A worksheet is filled out prior to the event, which prepares the students for the interview.

Some quick facts about the competition:

·    Must be enrolled in an Art class at CHS or CSHS

·    Deadline to enter 1/16/08

·    Must be present at VASE competition on Saturday, 2/16/08 at Fossil Ridge HS

·    Original artwork (reference photos must be attached)

·    Limit 2 artworks per student can be submitted

·    2-D, 3-D, electronic or photographs

·    Max size 24" x 36" for 2D or 36" x 36" x 36" for 3D

·    UIL rules apply - must be passing all classes

·    See CSHS /CHS teachers Mr. Horn, Mrs. Roller, Mr. Richie, Mrs. Brown or Mrs. Lapierre-Hayslip if interested.

Click here for detailed information and to print-off the VASE registration form.  For overall information on the art competition, check out the VASE website.

Time is running out . . .

There's not much time left, and we're still behind  Grapevine in the total number of cereal boxes collected for the annual BATTLE OF THE BOXES!!  Large drop-off containers are located in the front lobbies of CSHS and CHS just waiting to be filled so send/bring in the cereal anytime between now and end of school on Thursday, Dec 13th.  It's best to send in recognizable cereals that kids like, even if not the most nutritious choice.

All cereal donated will be included in 'Christmas is for Children' family food baskets so that children have something they enjoy, since cereal is often too expensive for families to purchase regularly. Donations will be counted each week to see who is winning the competition between Carroll and Grapevine - your donations will be greatly appreciated by many!
