CHS LIBRARY UPDATE
library
CHS Parents - as you know, we have been under construction for some time now but things are shaping up!  However, students still do not have computer access or the ability to print in the library so if your student has a project due and your home computer is not working, please make plans to take them to the public library or Kinko's for printing.

9th graders are busy working on their research projects on Immigration. A number of those books that were on reserve in the CHS library belong to CSHS, and at least 8 of them are missing.  Please check your student's room and backpacks for these books - frantic students inadvertently pick up books because they need them, and do not bring them back. Since they did not originate in our library, we will need to reimburse the Senior High library if they are not returned here. The total cost is about $200. Any CISD books on Immigration or Illegal Immigration need to be immediately returned to the CHS library.

We are still in the process of renovating and expanding our library to make it a really functional and attractive place for our students.   We appreciate your patience through this construction phrase.   Questions? Contact Bonnie Wilson, CHS Librarian, at WilsonB@cisdmail.com
Sophomores &  NHS
NHS
All eligible sophomores (with GPA of 93 or higher) should have received a letter in the mail this week, from Becci Rollins, the CHS National Honor Society Advisor, with details on the induction process for current 10th grade students.  The letter explains that in order to be inducted into NHS, the 10th grade student must attend a mandatory information meeting, either this Tuesday, Feb. 26th at 7:30 am, or Wednesday, Feb 27th at 3:30 pm.  If the student is unable to attend, a parent can come in their place.

At this meeting, students will learn exactly what steps need to be taken in order to become a member of the Carroll National Honor Society.   If you have any questions, contact Becci Rollins RollinsR@cisdmail.com

COURSE TO CONSIDER in 2008/2009
     dance
Need a PE or Fines Arts credit next semester?  Take DANCE!
Dance I and Drill Team Prep classes are offered at CHS as a PE or Fine Arts credit.  Explore different dance genres, learn choreography, work on your own choreography skills, get a good work out, and have fun dancing with your peers!  No prerequisites required!! Males and females welcome.   If you have any questions, email Christie Kamerman at kamermac@cisdmail.com
Beware of Imitations
beware
WARNING:  Independent Honor Societies Are Out There - Know Before You Sign Up!
The sponsors of the Carroll Chapter of the National Honor Society have noticed an increased number of mailings going out to Southlake students and their parents from independent companies offering what seem very much like a simple registration for our NHS campus-based organization.  These mailings do NOT represent the National Honor Society, but seem to offer recognition and rewards in return for a $45 membership fee.    Though this may be a viable option for your child to gain the recognition he or she  deserves, be aware of what you are signing into when you agree to join with a simple membership fee. Unless your child has been inducted formally at a ceremony in CISD, they are probably NOT a member of NHS.
Health Care Professionals Needed

The Carroll Medical Academy is currently seeking professionals from all areas of health care interested in participating in the annual CMA Career Fair.    This year the career fair is scheduled for 7:30 -11:30 am, Thursday, April 3, and will be held in the CSHS Library.  The fair will begin with a complimentary continental breakfast for all, from 7:30 - 8:00, sponsored by Invest Financial and catered by Jason's Deli.  Students will then visit with the various professionals from 8:30 - 11:30.   All CMA students, grades 9 - 12, will participate in this annual event.  The goal is to provide information on various career options and allow CMA students time to interact with professionals many fields.  Last year 35 representatives covering a wide range array of career choices provided one-on-one student interaction.  This is an outstanding learning experience for the students and a wonderful outreach and teaching opportunity for our local professionals.

If you are in a medically related field and would like to be a presenter during our Career day please contact Sherry Martin at martinsh@cisdmail.com.  For more information on the Carroll Medical Academy, check out the CISD website.
