When should you take the SAT and the ACT tests?
For our juniors and seniors, the testing calendar for the SAT and the ACT can be found on the following link. Both the SAT and the ACT now contain a writing section. The ACT writing section is optional; HOWEVER, most colleges require it. Therefore, we strongly encourage all students who take the ACT to register to take the writing portion. Otherwise, the student may be required to retake the entire ACT test to obtain a writing test score.

Our best advice is to take these tests in the spring of your junior year. That is when you will have taken most of the curriculum contained in these tests. Carroll Senior High School is a test center for the April 8, 2006 ACT test date and for the May 6, 2006 SAT test date. If you are a senior and you have not taken one or both of the tests OR if you wish to retake the tests, CSHS is a test center for the September 24, 2005 ACT test and for the October 8, 2005 SAT test. We have information in the CSHS Guidance Office for test registration. There are test dates each month throughout the 2005-06 school year and schools in the area are test centers. This information is also available in the CSHS Guidance Office.

NCAA Initial Eligibility Clearinghouse
JUNIORS -The NCAA Clearinghouse recommends that you register with the Clearinghouse during the fall of your senior year in high school if you intend to participate in Division I or II athletics as a freshman in college. For further information look on their website www.ncaaclearinghouse.net. This will take you directly to the NCAA Initial Eligibility Clearinghouse site for “Prospective Student Athletes.”

Transcript Requests
Official and unofficial transcript request forms may be completed in the reception area of the Guidance Office. Request for official transcripts are $5.00 and unofficial transcripts are $2.00. Please include name of student, and most importantly, the name and address of college or institution where the request is being sent. Allow one week for transcripts to be mailed. Allow two weeks for counselors and teachers to write letters of recommendations. Check applications for deadlines. Incomplete applications or transcript requests will be returned to the student. Transcript request requires five school days to process.

Thank You Volunteers
The Guidance Department would like to extend a huge thank you to the wonderful volunteers who support us throughout the year. These dedicated ladies help our department with so many tasks. Thank you, volunteers!!! You are truly appreciated.

College Visits and Campus Chats

Colleges and universities from around the country visit Carroll Senior High School in order to visit with our students. This is a very good opportunity for juniors and seniors to talk with a school representative and obtain information on admissions and the college experience in general. Please encourage your students to attend these Campus Chats even if they have selected a different college to attend. The general information and having questions answered can be very helpful in making your student comfortable with the transition from high school to college.

On the bulletin board in front of the Guidance Office, we will post information regarding when colleges and universities will be visiting CSH or sponsoring a meeting within the Dallas-Fort Worth area.

All Campus Chats are from 1:00 pm – 1:40 pm unless otherwise noted.
Campus Chats are held in the CSHS Guidance College & Career Center.
