Meeting Minutes
September 10, 2008
I. Call to Order: The meeting was called to order at 11:10 am.
Attendees who signed the attendance sheet include: Anjie Gordon,
Marcy Dunaway, Lisa Fenley, Wendy Simon, Vicki Rowan, Linda Snyder,
Veronica Carter, Sarah Close, Jane Baltes, Nan Stairs, Erin Shoupp,
Margaret Adams, Kelly Partyka, Ann Breeding, Dana Bucknam, Tammy
Halfpap, Christy Reppeto, Tina Wasserman, Jennifer Stallings, Kari
Mawn, Mary Pat Martin, Debra Albertini, Tammy Kane, Dr. Betty
McIlvain, Melissa Brinker, Mindy Bray, Karen Whitaker, Kim
Huddleston, Anne Rozell, Marie Verity, Sylvia Barnett, Kristi
Sargent. Dianne Dorman attended but did not sign in.
II. Reading and Approval of Minutes from August 2008: The August
minutes were distributed. With the updates, Erin moved to approve
the August minutes, Jennifer 2nd, all approved.
III. Principal’s Report
A. Awards and Commendations!!! ($): We won the TBEC award! Ms.
Brinker, Mrs. Albertini, & Nurse Hogan are receiving apples for
being “True to the Core”.
B. Blue Ribbon Update: On October 1st and 2nd, the classroom
visitations occur. The PTO will host two breakfasts and a lunch for
the committee. The hallway appearance will improve next week with
the corkboards, which have the support of the district. Please
participate in the important Blue Ribbon survey. Comments are
confidential.
IV. Officer’s Reports
A. Treasurer’s Report – Tammy Halfpap
1. Current Financials: Through Membership and Spirit Shop, our
income is $20,000, expenses $22,000.
B. President’s Report –Ann Breeding
1. Volunteer Jamboree 9/12 & Tickets for talent – helpers needed:
Ms. Brinker’s room needs to be
decorated Thursday, please help. Come on 9/12 and sign up!
2. Approved Disbursements
a. Bulletin Boards
b. Red Ribbon Week supplies (October 20 – 25)
c. Faculty T’s
d. Tea for the Teachers
e. New shelving for the PTO closet (split with DIS)
f. Lice Detection lights for nurses (split with DIS)
3. Landscape Maintenance Contract : The cost to maintain Mrs.
Heath’s garden is $80/month, $960/year.
Tina moved to approve this expense, Mindy 2nd, all approved.
4. “Phase 2” of campus beautification w/ Developers: We can’t focus
on the back because the district
will be working on it next year. PTO will pay for phase two. The
focus will be Mrs. Heath’s outdoor
garden and classroom.
5. Family Dinner Night 12/4 – helpers needed: The 2nd grade will
have a barnyard themed presentation,
Babe’s will cater this fun night.
6. Website updates - CISD/ PTO (links to minutes & disbursements;
board email addresses): The district
will update all of its websites soon. Look for meeting minutes in
the PTO link.
7. CEF - Amphicar auction donation (speaker today): The 10/12 event
at the DFW Hyatt costs $100. Tickets can be purchased online. Mrs. &
Mr. Heath donated a ride in their amphicar to be auctioned.
DES receives $10.00 from each Durham ticket sold.
C. Vice President Programs –Margaret Adams
1. Programs 2008 - 2009 Update: “Uncle Chris” is on the 4th grade
program for next week.
2. Red Ribbon Week Oct. 20-25th : Ms. Brinker is soliciting local
merchants for donations to be used as prizes in the daily drawing.
This is a week of anti-drug activities with Brett Daniels using
instruments to teach a lesson. Melissa needs red ribbons for the
trees.
D. Vice President Fundraising –Kelly Partyka
1. Membership Update: Mrs. Rozell is the 1st class to reach 100%!
The 1st class in each grade to reach
100% receives a Sundae party. In a family membership, each sibling
counts towards membership. The
Drive ends next week. So far, we have 86.6% membership.
2. Sally Foster: Runs October 6 – October 20th
3. Friday Night Fever: 9/26. Clifton Capital is the title sponsor.
We have over $4,000 in sponsor money.
Teacher raffles and flyers go home today. Decoration meeting is
Monday at 10:30. E. Vice President Parent Volunteers – Jennifer
Stallings
1. School T-shirt Update : Each grade level will have their own
color. Order to be placed at the end of
September.
2. Homeroom Moms: All positions are filled!
3. New positions – Life Skills and CM + aides – ideas for collection
for gifts?
4. Office Volunteers: This helps Dr. McIlvain and Mrs. Barnett
F. President Elect – Dana Bucknam
1. Volunteers of the Month: Mindy Bray, Stacey Porter, Kellie Monier,
Dana Bucknam, & Nan Stairs.
2. Spirit Shop Update: Sold over $12,000 in merchandise! Open
Fridays through October 10:25-11:45.
3. Teacher Connection Sept. 17th: Published every other week.
Contact Dana for submissions.
G. Advisor – Tina Wasserman
1. LRFPC: Tina and Dr. McIlvain will present at the meeting on
Monday
2. Budget Amendment: Spirit Shop to increase expenses to $15,500 and
income to $23,000. Linda S
Snyder moved to approve the motion, Dianne Dorman 2nd, all approved.
H. Recording Secretary –Kristi Sargent
1. Thank you’s: Minutes are now on the website through the PTO link.

IV. Standing Committee Reports
A. School Board Liaison – Erin Shoupp : Check website for changes to
Independence Weekend due to weather. Taxes
lowered from $1.46 ½ to $1.41 ½.
B. Newsletter/ Email -- info to Michele: Please send information by
Friday to Michele.
C Membership Update – Linda and Vicki: We are at 86.6 %. Kelly
Partyka also spoke about membership. Teachers are
members of PTO at no charge, they can purchase directories for $7.00
D. Welcome- Central Market “Friend”raiser 9/16 etc. – Nancy: Held at
11:00 in the community room for new and
“old” parents. Event held quarterly.
E. Fall Fest – Tammy, Angela, Julie: They need help with decorating
the day of the event. Decorating party
will be Monday at 10:00.
F. Yearbooks pics – Your child’s best chance of being in it! – Anjie,
Joni: send photos to Anjie at Anjiega@AOL.com
G. Outreach – Nicole: Walk for PKD on 9/20 at 8:00am. Knitterbugs
knit blankets to donate to homeless shelters and
meet on the last Saturday of the month 1:00-2:30. Just bring your
needles, Nicole provides the yarn.
H. Box tops, Upromise, etc. – Christy will send out a flyer next
week announcing the family box top contest. She is
working with local merchants for prizes, and would like donations of
small items for the children to “buy” with their
box tops. She is still collecting soup labels. Dianne Dorman is
working with local restaurants to increase
community partner dollars.
I. SCRIP - Kim will be at Spirit Shop every Friday. She has $2,500
in stock. New order forms go home next week.
V. New and Unfinished Business: Thank you to Mindy for the flower
pens!
A. CEF Culinary Celebration – Angela Weisgarber was unable to
attend.
VI. Adjournment: The meeting was adjourned at 12:10 pm by President
Ann Breeding.
