Friends of Rachel

On Tuesday, February 3, 2009, hundreds of students at Dawson Middle School accepted Rachel’s Challenge and pledged to start a chain reaction of kindness and compassion. Many of these same students took their pledge even farther by becoming members of Friends of Rachel. These students meet weekly and actively seek ways to make a difference in our school and community.

    

FOR STATEMENT OF PURPOSE
The Friends of Rachel exist at Dawson Middle School to serve others.  This organization actively pursues ways to make kindness a way of life in the atmosphere at our school and community.  We want to have a chain reaction of kindness envelope our school and community as we look out for and consider others before ourselves.

Friends of Rachel sponsored a "Pajama Pants/Cap Day" on December 4  


DMS held a fundraiser in December to adopt 4 families of the Battered Women's Shelter in Arlington for Christmas. The student's who donated a dollar to the cause could wear their favorite pajama pants or hats that day. We raised almost $400 and the student council donated $400 to our efforts as well. Our students had a blast for a very good cause. It was a win win for Dawson.
