Superintendent's Welcome
Welcome Dragons!
Carroll ISD stands out in Texas and the nation as a leader in public education. But we want to offer our citizens more than just a good school district. We want to ensure that every Carroll Dragon is college- and career-ready. In fact, our message for the 2011-2012 school year will follow the ABCs of the Carroll Dragons.
A = Academic Accountability
Our vision is to create an environment that fosters excellence in everything we do in Carroll ISD. We want to provide a caring and creative learning environment that promotes excellence, fosters integrity and encourages each student to reach his or her academic, extra-curricular and social potential. Newsweek Magazine recently ranked Carroll among the top half of the best 500 public high schools in the United States. We are committed to ensuring success for our students at every grade level, building and subject. We understand the importance of vertical alignment and academic accountability. That’s why the number one goal of this district is to raise the academic challenge and performance of each student.
B = Balanced Budget
It’s no secret that these are tough financial times for Texas public schools. Over the next biennium, Carroll ISD will lose $8 million in state funding. Your Board of Trustees and Administration are committed to a 2-5 year plan to balance the budget. Although we have financial constraints on our operating budget, voters approved $138 million in bond projects in May of 2009. Despite the tough economy and slight drops in enrollment, CISD is working to improve facilities, eliminate portable buildings and provide support facilities that meet the needs of our current student population.
C = College and Career Readiness
The first day of kindergarten as a Carroll Dragon is just as important as the pomp and circumstance of that final walk across the graduation stage. Here in Carroll ISD, we are putting the U (you) in education. Our theme for the 2011-2012 school year concentrates on the connectivity between every teacher in every grade level of the K-12 experience. We want each child to turn the tassel knowing that without a doubt, a Dragon is prepared to succeed in the workforce and in higher education. Join us in our focus to develop strong relationships in the coming year.
We look forward to celebrating success together with you during the 2011-2012 school year.
Sincerely,
David J. Faltys, Ed.D.
