Advanced Placement (AP) Program
The Advanced Placement Program allows high school students to participate in college level courses while earning high school credits, as well as, the potential to earn college level credit. Research has shown that students who succeed in AP courses generally perform well in college as a result of rigorous academic preparation. Currently students receive 10 additional points to their final passing AP course average.
Benefits of Taking AP Courses:
- Students are better prepared for college.
- Students are more challenged and stimulated by the enhanced rigor of the coursework.
- Students master in depth content at the college level more easily after completing AP courses in high school.
- Students scoring well on an AP exam may be eligible for the Distinguished Achievement Program (DAP)
- Students may earn college credit, saving both time and money.
- Students are more likely to graduate with a double major and purse advanced studies.

Pre-AP
The purpose of the Pre-AP program is to equip students with the necessary skills, habits of mind, and knowledge they need to be successful in future Advanced Placement courses.
Students in these courses are expected to perform at high academic levels and pursue Advanced Placement courses offered through Carroll High and Carroll Senior High School.
Pre-AP courses begin in middle school with math, science GT/Pre-AP Language Arts and continue in all core subject areas at the 9th-12th grade levels.
