Computer Lab

Welcome to the CES Computer Lab!! I would like to introduce myself. My name is Karen Floyd. I am very excited about the opportunities in Technology for the 2009-2010 school year. 

With the start of a new school year, our focus in the Computer Lab has been on Computer Usage, Internet Safety and Lab Rules and Guidelines. Most of you have already received, signed and returned the AUP (Acceptable Use Policy) which explains the CISD District Policies regarding computer usage. Thank you for returning those forms. It is important that both parent and student understand the districts policies. We have also been talking about important safety guidelines while using the computer and internet. The students have seen videos and participated in interactive online games emphasizing these important rules. I have encouraged students to engage in discussions with parents about internet safety at home. As we move forward throughout the school year, I will continue to remind students about vigilance while using the computer and the internet. Thank you for your support in these efforts. In all grade levels, we have begun learning and practicing basic keyboarding skills. We will routinely practice these skills each time a student comes to the lab for Computer rotation. As they learn new skills or refresh skills that they already have, we will introduce new ideas and levels of technology. The students have asked about accessing several websites that we use here in the lab at home and I would like to provide those links:

I am very excited about getting to know each and every student here at Carroll Elementary as they come to the Computer Lab. I look forward to sharing my excitement about Technology and how we can incorporate fun and learning at the same time!
