Special Notes from Nurse Self

Hand washing is the best way to stay healthy this year! Wash your hands with soap before eating, after you sneeze, cough, or use the restroom. Hand gel is okay, but it doesn’t take the place of scrubbing with soap and water.

1.  KEEP YOUR CHILD HOME IF THEY EXHIBIT THE FOLLOWING SYMPTOMS:

  • Fever of 100 degrees or more
  • Vomiting or diarrhea
  • Vomiting or diarrhea
  • Persistent cough
  • Any rash
  • Open draining or itchy lesions
  • Inflamed, itchy, and / or draining eyes
  • Presence of lice or nits in the hair
  • Undiagnosed scaly patches on the skin or scalp
  • Suffering from a reportable disease (as defined by the Texas Board of Health)

2.  FEVER:

  • If your child experiences fever please allow them to stay home until they are fever free for 24 hours with our Tylenol or Motrin.  Students will be sent home it they have 100 degrees or more of temperature.

3.  VOMITING:

  • Please allow your child to stay home if they vomit during the night or the morning before school.

4.  DIARRHEA

  • Episodes of diarrhea, whether infections or non-infectious, are a source of  E. coli.  This can be transmitted quickly with consequences in a communal environment.  An isolated episode of diarrhea, properly maintained, and is not recurring, could allow a student to remain in a classroom setting.

Hearing and Vision Screens

Hearing and Vision Screens will be done each fall for K, 1, and 3 grades.  If your child wears glasses, please send them to school daily.  If you have concerns regarding your child's hearing or vision, please contact me.

Please contact me with questions or concerns about our student's health.
