AcademicsCarrolhas been rated Exemplary for the 2011-2012 school year. All campuses in the district were also rated Exemplary, with the exception of Old Union Elementary which was given the Not Rated: Data Integrity Issues rating following an investigation of testing procedures there last spring.
"We are extremely proud of the hard work evidenced by the Exemplary ratings for our district and campuses,” said Superintendent David J. Faltys. “Passing the state test is only one measure of our success and accountability, but it is no small feat for a district our size. Our students and staff continue to meet the challenge of high standards and expectations by performing at an exemplary level time and time again. We celebrate today the effort they have put forth; what a tremendous testament to the job they are doing.”
The state of Texas does not rank public schools, but they do rate them based on performance on standardized tests, attendance, and drop out rates. CISD has a zero percent drop out rate, a 97 percent attendance rate and consistently scores above the state and national averages on assessments. The state holds districts to a high standard of 90 percent passing to obtain the Exemplary rating. In addition, each subgroup must receive a 90 percent for a district or campus to earn the top rating.
Five of CISD's schools have been named National Blue Ribbon Schools by the U.S. Department of Education. The Blue Ribbon Schools include Rockenbaugh Elementary, Johnson Elementary, Carroll Elementary, Carroll Middle School and Carroll Senior High School. This fall, Durham Elementary School will receive a site visit as a nominee for the National Blue Ribbon Schools award.
Eight of 11 campuses were named to the Texas Business Education Coalition's 2008 Honor Roll. These include Dawson Middle School, Eubanks Intermediate School, Durham Intermediate School, Durham Elementary School, Old Union Elementary School, Carroll Elementary School, Johnson Elementary School, and Rockenbaugh Elementary School.
Approximately 98 percent of Carroll's seniors go on to attend a college or university after graduation. The Class of 2008 earned more than $14 million in scholarships to colleges and universities across the nation. More than 90 percent of Carroll students take a college entrance exam, with composite scores on the SAT and ACT that exceed state and national averages.
Carroll offers a full array of Advanced Placement and Honors courses, a challenging curriculum for gifted and talented students and special programs for students with special needs.
