Online Dual Credit Classes (University of Texas at Arlington)
Carroll Senior High School is working with the University of Texas at Arlington to provide online, dual credit classes for the 2009-2010 school year. The courses are part of the state’s Texas Virtual School Network program. In the last legislative session, the Texas State Legislature approved funding for the program; therefore, there is no tuition fee for students to participate. Students will need to purchase their own textbooks; however, as part of the state funding, there will be a $51.00 credit toward the cost of textbooks.
Online registration for the dual credit courses is open now. For students who are interested in this opportunity, we encourage them to access the website www.StateU.com to learn more about the course selection and registration process.
The first semester will begin on September 21, 2009. A compacted semester will begin on November 9, 2009.
Note: Please read all six points below
- Visit the website, www.StateU.com: there you will find information about requirements for enrolling, courses that are available, and information about the courses.
- If you are a senior and you want to take a course that is required for graduation, you must take it at CSHS and not through this online dual credit program.
- You may not drop a course at CSHS in which you are currently enrolled to participate in this online program.
- See your CSHS counselor for advice and approval for course selection – this is an essential step in the process because of graduation requirements and course selection.
- The dual credit course in which you enroll must be part of your CSHS schedule. This class may be selected as an 8th course selection (replacing your 4th/8th open slot in your current schedule). This is the only option for enrolling in an eighth course at CSHS.
- All dual credit courses (either online or taken at CSHS) are recorded on your high school transcript as Pass/Fail (P/F). The actual grade that you earn through UT-Arlington will be recorded on your college transcript.
If you have questions about this opportunity, please contact the Carroll Senior High School Guidance Office at 817.949.5813.

When should you take the SAT and the ACT tests?
For our juniors and seniors, the testing calendar for the SAT and the ACT can be found at the following links, www.collegeboard.com and www.actstudent.org.. Both the SAT and the ACT now contain a writing section. The ACT writing section is optional; HOWEVER, most colleges require it. Therefore, we strongly encourage all students who take the ACT to register to take the writing portion. Otherwise, the student may be required to retake the entire ACT test to obtain a writing test score. Our best advice is to take these tests in the spring of your junior year. That is when you will have taken most of the curriculum contained in these tests.

| NCAA Initial Eligibility Clearinghouse |
| Students should register with the Eligibility Center at the beginning of their junior year in high school. At the end of the student's junior year, a transcript, which includes six semesters of grades, should be sent to the Eligibility Center from the high school. Additionally, students should have their SAT or ACT scores forwarded directly to the Eligibility Center (by using code "9999") whenever they take the exam. |

| College Visits and Campus Chats |
|
Colleges and universities from around the country visit Carroll Senior High School in order to visit with our students. This is a very good opportunity for juniors and seniors to talk with a school representative and obtain information on admissions and the college experience in general. Please encourage your students to attend these Campus Chats even if they have selected a different college to attend. The general information and having questions answered can be very helpful in making your student comfortable with the transition from high school to college.
On the bulletin board in front of the Guidance Office, we will post information regarding when colleges and universities will be visiting CSH or sponsoring a meeting within the Dallas-Fort Worth area.
All Campus Chats are from 1:00 pm – 1:40 pm unless otherwise noted.
Campus Chats are held in the CSHS Guidance College & Career Center and are listed on scrolling announcements.
