Michael Oglesby, Durham Intermediate School Band Director
The Durham Intermediate School Band has approximately 115 students that start band in the sixth grade in homogeneous classes – flute, double reed, clarinet, saxophone, trumpet, horn, trombone, low brass and percussion. These classes focus on the development of correct musical and performance skills. The 6th grade band performs at events and concerts throughout the year. The 6th grade classes perform in the fall as homogeneous groups and as a band for the Winter Concert, Spring Concert, and one other contest in the DFW area.
The goals for the DIS Band are:
1. To instill an individual desire to succeed.
2. To promote cooperation and teamwork
3. To express the aesthetic value of music through performance skills and theory comprehension
4. To academically fulfill the state and district requirements for fine arts in the school curriculum
5. HAVE FUN!!!
