Robert Prigmore Wins Individual State Wrestling Title

For Carroll senior Robert Prigmore, third time's the charm.

In his third-straight debut at the University Interscholastic League wresting competition, the Carroll senior won the 5A State Championship in the 189-pound division. He had earned a third place finish as a sophomore and a second place finish as a junior. Prigmore defeated Joseph Flores of Canyon Randall 5-3 to win the individual state title.

Prigmore began wrestling as a child. The fact that he has already earned a state name for Carroll's relatively new wrestling program is a testament to the determination of this talented student-athlete. He already knows what it feels like to be a champion - Robert is also a member of the Dragon football team.

The Dragon wrestling team is coached by Brock Gray.

District Disposes Of All Recalled Beef

Child Nutrition Services officials announced the disposal of about nine cases of recalled beef from the Westland/Hallmark Meat Company. State officials alerted school districts across Texas in January to possible problems with frozen beef from the meat company. The U.S. Department of Agriculture recalled 143 million pounds of frozen beef from the California slaughternouse. Only about one quarter of the product went to schools via the federal school lunch program.

Mary Brunig, Carroll ISD's Director of Child Nutrition Services, said the district immediately complied with the "hold" order, which had no affect on the weekly school lunch program. There was no way to know whether or not the beef CISD was actually affected by the recall. The announcement involved fine grind ground beef. State officials say there was only a remote possibility of adverse health consequences from use of the product. But every precaution was taken to ensure CISD complied with all directives.

Local officials disposed of the meat this past week following a directive from the Texas Department of Agriculture. A deadline of March 31 was set for school districts to destroy all cases of the recalled frozen beef.

Love Kids? Postcard Announces Kindergarten Registration

postcard

Carroll ISD elementary schools have scheduled kindergarten registration events in an effort to pre-register the Class of 2021. School officials mailed a postcard to all residential and commercial taxpayers in an effort to communicate kindergarten registration procedures. This postcard features Durham Elementary School kindergarten teacher Tiffany Delbridge. The postcard was sponsored and paid for by CISD corporate partner, Roxann Taylor & Associates Realtors.

Students who turn five years old on or before September 1, 2008 are eligible to register. Some campuses are offering single registration dates and parents can register their kindergarten students anytime on or after that event. Others ask for parents to register their kindergartner during regular business hours and have planned a student orientation for later in the month.

To register your child for kindergarten, you'll need a copy of the child's Social Security number, up-to-date immunization records, birth certificate and two proofs of residency. A driver's license does not constitute proof of residence; rather parents are asked to submit a recent electric AND water bill.

Dates for kindergarten registration are:

  • Old Union Elementary - Wednesday, April 9 from 8:15 to 9:45 a.m.
  • Durham Elementary - Tuesday, April 22 from 6 to 7 p.m.
  • Rockenbaugh Elementary - Thursday, April 24 from 8:30 to 10 a.m.
  • Carroll Elementary School - Register during regular office hours April 14-24.
  • Johnson Elementary School - Register during regular office hours April 14-24.
