Community Survey Link Available Four Assistant Principals Hired Trustees approved the hiring of four assistant principals during Monday evening's School Board meeting. Angie George, Carroll Elementary School's new Assistant Principal, replaces Donnie Bartlett who resigned to take a principal position in Grand Prairie. Angie comes from Keller ISD's Shady Grove Elementary where she has been an assistant principal for eight years. She has 14 years of experience in education. Angie earned her Bachelor of Science in Elementary Education and her Master of Science in Educational Administration from East Texas State University. Earlier this year, Trustees voted to add a second assistant principal position at each middle school campus. As a result, Janice Rowlands will be a new addition to Carroll Middle School's staff as an Assistant Principal. She has more than 16 years of experience in education as an eighth grade Science teacher. Janice comes from Hillwood Middle School in Keller ISD where she's taught since 2000. She earned her Bachelor of Science degree from Hardin Simmons University and her Master of Education from Grand Canyon University. Earlier this month, Ryan Wilson was named the new principal of Dawson Middle School - replacing Trudie Jackson who announced her retirement this spring. That left two assistant principal vacancies to fill at Dawson. Matrice Johnson and Shawn Duhon were hired Monday evening as new Assistant Principals for DMS. Matrice has been the Gifted and Talented Coordinator at Dawson since 2006. Prior to coming to Carroll, she taught English Language Arts in Fort Worth ISD for five years. Matrice earned her Bachelor of Arts in English Education from the University of Southern Mississippi and her Master of Education from the University of North Texas. Shawn comes to Carroll from Arlington ISD's Bowie High School where he has served as an Assistant Principal since 2005. Prior to that, he was the Assistant Principal at Grand Prairie High School 9th Campus for two years and has more than 14 total years of experience in education. Shawn earned his Bachelor of Science degree from Cameron University and his Master of Education from University of Texas at Arlington. In Other Business, The School Board. . .
The Carroll ISD School Board has called two special meetings for the remainder of this month. The School Board will meet Tuesday, June 24 at 6:30 p.m. in the Cabinet Meeting Room of the CISD Administration Center, 3051 Dove Road in Grapevine. Discussion topics will include a presentation from the Hines Corporation. A meeting agenda can be found on the District's website. Trustees will also meet Monday, June 30 at 6:30 p.m. in the Cabinet Meeting Room of the CISD Administration Center to consider hirings and other school projects. A complete meeting agenda will be posted to the District's website next week. Summer Board meetings will not be held in Johnson Elementary School's auditorium due to summer construction projects at that campus. 18 School Supply Lists Dragons Finish Second In Lone Star Cup The Dragons were just four points away from winning this year's coveted Lone Star Cup. The last time Carroll brought home the gold was in 2002. This year's 5A winner was Conroe's The Woodlands High School with a score of 84 points. The Lone Star Cup judges schools based on the number of finishes in the following activities: state and area marching band, team tennis, boys' and girls' cross country, volleyball, football, boys' and girls' swimming and diving, boys' and girls' wrestling, boys' and girls' basketball, boys' and girls' soccer, boys' and girls' golf, boys' and girls' track and field, one-act play, academics, softball and baseball. Varsity Cheerleaders Succeed At Summer Camp
The 2008-2009 Carroll Senior High School varsity cheerleaders achieved top honors during their recent visit to UCA cheer camp at Texas A&M University. The Carroll cheerleading squad earned Camp Champs in Xtreme Routine, was named a Superior Squad and received Blue Superior ribbons for all evaluations and a Gold Superior ribbon for the final evaluation. The squad was especially honored to receive the Leadership Award which is voted on by the more than 40 teams attending the camp. This is the second consecutive year that the Carroll cheerleaders have won this prestigious award. Squad members named All-Stars were: Kirsten Stone, Keeley Stone and Keelie McMurrey. Kirsten Stone also was the Jump-Off Winner. Heather Robinson is the varsity cheer coach and sponsor. Our sympathy is expressed to Beth Witwer (Johnson Elementary) following the death of her son, Joe Folmer, who was killed in an automobile accident June 12. Joe was 20 years old. He attended Carroll and later graduated from a high school in another state. Services were held Wednesday at J.E. Faust in Grapevine. Congratulations to Stephanie Mrozinski (Durham Elementary) and her husband, Brad, on the birth of a baby boy, Paul. He was born June 16 weighing 5 pounds, 12 ounces and was 19.5 inches long. Also, congratulations to Suzanne Dell (former Carroll Middle teacher) following the birth of a baby boy. Jonathan McCawley Dell was born June 13. He weighed 8 pounds and was 20 inches long.
Central Market and Shops of Southlake are hosting a free nutrition seminar Saturday, June 21 from 10:30 a.m. to noon. This month's topic is Hot Hormones For Cool Health with Dr. Sharon Price (www.nutritional direction.com). This event takes place in Central Market of Southlake's Community Room. Also, enjoy the first day of summer with Shops of Southlake from 10:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. Activities will include a canned food drive, Radio Disney games and giveaways along with strolling entertainers and a concert on the Central Market patio with the "Payin' My Dues" Band. Alliance Rugby Club Hosting Exhibition Day Alliance Rugby Club is having an information and exhibition day Saturday, June 21. Come to learn more about the marvelous game of rugby and have fun, too. Some Alliance Rugby Club players have played on the the Texas Select Team and others have played for the Eagles, the U.S. National Rugby Team. Two boys are currently representing Texas at this weekend's Denver National Invitational Tournament. Last year, the Under 18 team won the State Championship; the group earned second place this year.
