Dragon Forensic Student Places Sixth In National Competition

Dragon forensic student Bryan Campanello gave a superior performance in the Student Congress division during the 2008 National Forensic League (NFL) National Tournament. Bryan placed among the top six students in the nation - beating out 232 other competitors to earn this distinction.

Student Congress encourages individual debate in a group format as students write legislation and speak on the legislation using proper parliamentary procedure. Student Congress is one of 10 main events at the NFL National Tournament, an event which attracts over 3,100 students from across the country and as far away as the Pacific Islands, Korea and Singapore. This year's NFL Tournament was held in Las Vegas June 15-20.

The National Forensic League is the nation's oldest and largest speech and debate honor society. Its mission is to promote secondary school speech and debate activities and interscholastic competition as a means to develop a student's lifelong skills and values, as well as the public's awareness of the value of speech, debate and communication education.

Back To School Information Available

Carroll ISD's Back to School website includes all the important information parents and students need to be ready for the first day of school. Information includes New Student Registrations, Meet the Teacher events, Curriculum Nights, School Supply Lists and more. Additional information will be posted to the Back to School page as August approaches.

New For 2008-2009
Parents should keep in mind that all preschool through fourth-grade students will dismiss early the first five days of the school year rather than six like in the past. Trustees reduced the number of early dismissal days by one in an effort to address parent concerns and input. The early dismissal days are used for important baseline reading and math assessments.

CISD Trustees have eliminated the student activity fee for athletes in grades 7-12. No longer will families have to pay to have their children participate in athletic programs. No changes were made to the existing parking and bus transportation fees.

School supply lists have been changed this year. In an effort to accommodate parent requests, CISD has streamlined the process to individualize lists for each school and grade level. This will help eliminate the purchase of uniform items at campuses that did not use everything in the supply packs. A copy of each school and grade level supply list is available on the Back-To-School web link.

Visit the Back to School 2008 web link below for details.
