THE GREEN PAGES WEB DIRECTORY - PROUD SUPPORTERS OF THE CARROLL DRAGONS

Posted July 31, 2008

Editor's Note: The Texas Education Agency is releasing 2007-2008 accountability ratings August 1. A separate press release will be issued following the announcement.

School Lunch Prices Will Remain For 2008-2009

The Carroll School Board voted at Monday evening's meeting to maintain the price of elementary hot plate lunches. Trustees did permit a portion of the a la carte prices to increase due to rising food and transportation costs. Trustees plan to make up any difference in produce and food costs during the 2008-2009 school year by using the District's fund balance.

Trustees asked Child Nutrition Director Mary Brunig to monitor costs throughout the school year and provide the Board with a mid-year report. The cost of a hot plate lunch is $2.15 at elementaries; $2.40 at intermediates; $2.75 at middle schools; and $3 at the high school and senior high.

Tax Rate, Budget Hearing Date Changed

Trustees will hold a public hearing for the 2008-2009 School Budget & Tax Rate Monday, August 25. Trustees agreed to move the date of the hearing, originally scheduled for the 11th, to allow additional time to review changes in the state's latest finance template. The hearing will begin at 6:30 p.m. on the 25th in the Cabinet Meeting Room of the CISD Administration Center, 3051 Dove Road in Grapevine.

Trustees, by law, must adopt a school budget by the end of August. A budget presentation and public hearing will be held at the beginning of the meeting, with an agenda item to also act on the budget later in the evening. Trustees can adopt the tax rate at the same time or wait until mid-September, if they choose. Following the hearing, Trustees will convene for a regular meeting to discuss school business. A complete agenda will be posted to the District's website within 72 hours of the meeting.

A regular meeting of the Board of Trustees will also take place Monday, August 11.

Back To School Information Available

Carroll ISD's Back to School website includes all the important information parents and students need to be ready for the first day of school. Information includes New Student Registrations, Meet the Teacher events, Curriculum Nights, School Supply Lists and more. Additional information will be posted to the Back to School page as August approaches.

New For 2008-2009
Parents should keep in mind that all preschool through fourth-grade students will dismiss early the first five days of the school year rather than six like in the past. Trustees reduced the number of early dismissal days by one in an effort to address parent concerns and input. The early dismissal days are used for important baseline reading and math assessments.

CISD Trustees have eliminated the student activity fee for athletes in grades 7-12. No longer will families have to pay to have their children participate in athletic programs. No changes were made to the existing parking and bus transportation fees.

School supply lists have been changed this year. In an effort to accommodate parent requests, CISD has streamlined the process to individualize lists for each school and grade level. This will help eliminate the purchase of uniform items at campuses that did not use everything in the supply packs. A copy of each school and grade level supply list is available on the Back-To-School web link.

City Of Southlake Issues Mandatory Stage 2 Drought Restrictions

The City of Southlake has issued Stage 2 of drought conditions due to heavy consumption of water. This heavy use is brought about by persistent long-term dry conditions, and increasingly hotter daily temperatures exceeding 100 degrees. Stage 2 was triggered on July 28 by three consecutive days of elevated water storage tank levels falling below 18 feet with water pumps running at maximum capacity. These triggers are outlined in the Drought Contingency Ordinance No. 662-C. Stage 2 restrictions will remain in effect either until September 30 when demand is anticipated to recede, or significant rainfall occurs, or conditions worsen.

All residents, businesses, golf courses, HOA common areas and City facilities are asked to follow a mandatory lawn and landscape irrigation schedule. The City of Southlake is requesting that the installation of all new lawn and landscapes be delayed until all watering restrictions are lifted.

For more information, including a lawn watering schedule, visit the link below:
