Trustees Approve Four-Percent Raise For Classroom Professionals

At Monday's School Board meeting, Carroll Trustees approved a four-percent actual raise for the District's classroom professionals. This group includes teachers, nurses, librarians, counselors, diagnosticians, speech language therapists and occupational therapists. The total cost to the District is $864,878. This bump in salary brings CISD's 2008-2009 starting teacher salary to $44,900.

Trustees voted earlier this summer to give all Dragon employees a minimum of a three-percent actual raise for the coming school year.

Trustees are expected to vote on the school budget Monday, August 25, but will wait to discuss the 2008-2009 tax rate until their September 8 meeting. Trustees plan to maintain the Maintenance & Operations tax rate of $1.04 per $100 valuation, but have the option to reduce the overall District tax rate by lowering the debt service rate (I&S) which is currently at $.425 per $100 valuation. Trustees will weigh the tax reduction against the opportunity to pay off bonded debt on variable rate bonds.
