Clubs

Students are encouraged to join a club.  However, students may choose to participate in only one of the following:  Ambassadors, Student Council or Yearbook.  Parents, some clubs have already started. Students are responsible for listening to school announcements and picking up/returning the club applications on time. See below for information.

Ambassadors Club
Sponsor: Miss Blazek 
One boy and one girl from each homeroom who are not Student Council representatives, recommended by the teacher,  will be responsible for providing new students to EIS "a buddy" to guide them through their first week at school. Ambassador's will give tours, help with lockers, lunchroom procedures and introduce new students to others. There will be one training meeting with follow up meetings throughout the year.  Representatives will be chosen by October 9.


Art Club
Sponsor:  Mrs. Amick

There are four different Art clubs which meet before school 8-8:30 am:
Photography club Tuesday Jan. 12-Mar. 23
Mural Club Wednesday Sept. 23-Nov. 18
Ceiling Tile club Wednesday Jan. 13-Mar. 10
All clubs were filled on a first come first serve basis.

Book Lovers
Sponsor: Mrs.Drenka, Mrs. Reinhart

Meetings: Two mornings per month during the school year.
Book lovers will meet to discuss their favorite books.  Different genres of reading will be discussed at each meeting.  Students will not be required to read the same book. Our first meeting will be held on Thursday, Oct. 8th from 8-8:30 a.m. in the library.

Chess
Sponsors:  Ms. McMurrey, Mrs. Price

Regular meetings will be Friday mornings beginning at 8:00 and alternating from Ms. McMurrey’s room and Mrs. Price’s room. The club is limited to 20 members. All skill levels are welcome, but participants must understand piece movement and the rules of the game. Everyone is sure to improve as they learn from each other and gain experience.

Choir

Our choir club is a great group of students who are passionate about singing. We want anyone who finds joy in making music to be a part of our group. There are no auditions to join our choir, all we ask is that you are committed to our group and attend every rehearsal. We are counting on you!

Culinary Club
Sponsor:  Mrs. Price (6th), Mrs. Hardin (5th)

This club will visit different locations off campus (in the Southlake area).  Parents will be responsible for transportation and cost of event.   Maximum of 25 students per grade.  A drawing will be held if more than 25 students sign up.


D.R.U.M. Club
Sponsor:  Mrs. Von Dreau

Thursday Mornings 8:00 - 8:30 am - Music Room
January 21 - May 27
D.R.U.M. is a club that explores the world of hand percussion through improvisation and world music. Students will be taught to listen carefully and interact with the other musicians around them. They will study the instrument's lineage and learn to play it correctly. We will learn rhythms from all around the globe to apply these rhythms to our improvisations.
Every Friday in the spring, we will pick three members of the club to "play" the Eubanks students out of the building at the end of the school day. We will also look for at least one opportunity to host a public drum circle to invite our friends and family to join in the music making.

Gardening Club
Sponsors: Mrs. Hooton, Ms. Rankin, Ms. Michaud

We will be starting a new club this year.  Our goal is to help beautify the outside of our school.  The gardening club will meet every Tuesday afternoon until 4:45.  During this time, we will weed flower beds, pick out and plant new plants, have guest speakers, and plan new flower beds.
Mrs. Hooton and Ms. Rankin will be sponsoring this club.  The first 30 completed forms will be selected for membership.

Hooked on Kindness Club

The Hooked on Kindness Club is a club for student leaders. Members are excited about spreading the message of Rachel's Challenge and Fish Philosophy with their classmates and with their community. Members have the opportunity to participate in service opportunities both in Eubanks Intermediate School and in the community.


Math Olympiad
Sponsor:  Mrs. Arnold
 
Math Olympiad begins Oct. 5th and Ends March 29th, this year.

Puppet Club
Sponsor:  Mrs. VonDreau

Our puppet club students build their own mouth and rod puppets.
In the spring we put on a silly and wonderful musical show!  This club includes sewing and constructing a puppet and singing and performing with the finished puppet.

Recycling Club
Sponsor:  Mrs. Sparks

We are a service club and our primary purpose is to collect the paper and water bottle recycling at Eubanks.  We also sponsor the Dragons Lights Out Campaign, and educate fellow students and teachers about making earth-friendly decisions.  We have lots of fun while doing an important job.

Robotics
Sponsors:  Ms. Cagle

The club will focus on basic to intermediate level robotics using the LEGO Mindstorm NXT system. Or goal is to first teach the basics of robotics and programming using a series of robot “missions” that the students will accomplish in teams of three. We will then compete in the TCEA Robotics area competition, held in December and possibly the state competition in May.

Running Club
Sponsors:  Mrs. Bullock, Mrs. Kole, Mrs. Knight

Meetings:  Thursdays, 3:45-4:30, begins Oct. 8 and ends March 11.
Must be motivated to run, must provide own transportation. No limit to the number of students


Student Council
Sponsors:  Mrs. Bonnette, Mrs. Hooton, Mrs. Gilbert

Student Council meetings will be held on Monday from 8:00 - 8:30 as needed. Space is limited - one elected representative from each homeroom.  This position does require some after school activities.  Students were elected Sept. 17.

Tennis Club
Sponsors:  Miss Wong, Mrs. Shuman, Mrs. Dennis

Sixth Grade ONLY…
Meetings: Mondays, October 5-Dec. 14, 3:45-4:30. Meet in Mrs. Dennis room to walk as a group to DMS tennis courts.
We will enjoy time to play tennis together and learn some of the rules of the game.  Please have a ride promptly at 4:30. Pick up is at the DMS tennis courts.  Club will be limited to the first 30 students to return the completed form to Mrs. Dennis.


Yearbook Club

Sponsor:   Miss Fann

Meetings: Tuesdays 3:45-4:15 pm.  Students will be chosen by September 25th.  There are 15 members chosen from the applications submitted and teacher approval.
