Carroll ISD Mathematics Program

The Carroll ISD K-12 mathematics program provides an aligned, high-quality, and challenging curriculum by
  • Fostering a strong foundation in number sense
  • Bridging concrete and abstract concepts through the use of real-world applications
  • Promoting and developing critical and independent thinking through problem-solving strategies in meaningful and relevant situations.

in order to create an engaging program, which encourages all students to reach their full potential and become lifelong learners.

Elementary Mathematics (K-4)

Throughout mathematics, K-4 students in Carroll ISD build a foundation of basic understandings of number, operation, and quantitative reasoning; patterns, relationships, algebraic thinking, geometry, spatial reasoning, measurement, and probability and statistics. Students use algorithms for addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division as generalizations connected to concrete experiences. Students use appropriate language and organizational structures to represent and communicate relationships, make predictions, and solve problems. Students use these processes together with technology and other mathematical tools to develop conceptual understanding and solve problems as they do mathematics.

Our mathematics curriculum focuses on the following strands:

  • Mathematical Processes/Problem Solving
  • Number, Operations, and Quantitative Reasoning
  • Patterns, Relationships, and Algebraic Thinking
  • Measurement
  • Geometry and Spatial Reasoning
  • Probability and Statistics

  • K-4 Math TEKS
  • K-4 Year at a Glance

Intermediate Mathematics (5-6)

In order to meet the needs of Carroll ISD students, three levels of mathematics are offered in fifth and sixth grades. The three levels of mathematics were introduced for fifth grade in the 2010-2011 school year and will be introduced for sixth grade in the 2011-2012 school year. The three courses offered are Mathematical Investigations, Compacted Mathematics, and Accelerated Mathematics.
The criteria for placement and a description of each course can be found on the Intermediate School Math Placement link listed below. Students will enroll in the same course they took in fifth grade unless they place into another course.

Secondary Mathematics (7-12)

Secondary mathematics begins the process of taking foundational math concepts and applying them in new and more rigorous ways. At the conclusion of 6th grade, students will be placed into 7th Grade Math, Pre-algebra or Algebra I for their middle school experience.  Five criteria are used to place students into the appropriate mathematics course: Achievement test, Cognitive Ability Test, Iowa Algebraic Aptitude Test, math average, and TAKS commended. For further information regarding the placement process, please refer to the “Middle School Math Placement”
link below.
