Carroll ISD Science Program
The Carroll ISD K-12 science program provides an aligned and engaging program by:
- Implementing inquiry-based learning
- Promoting and developing critical thinking through hands-on activities, technology integration, lab-based investigations, and real world application of concepts.
in order to provide students with an authentic understanding of scientific knowledge and processes so that all students may gain confidence in scientific learning and make informed decisions as they participate in an ever-changing scientific global community.
Science
The study of science in Carroll ISD includes planning and implementing field and laboratory investigations using scientific methods, analyzing information, making informed decisions, and using tools to collect and record information. Students learn that science is a way of learning about the natural world and that there is a vast body of changing and increasing knowledge described by physical, mathematical, and conceptual models.
Middle School Pre-AP Science
The purpose of Pre-AP Middle School science is to introduce skills, concepts and assessment methods to prepare students for the success in future Pre-AP and AP science courses. Pre-AP 7th and 8th Grade science covers the same Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills as the regular 7th and 8th grade science courses, however, the curriculum has been written in such a manner as to include more rigorous math, activities, assessments, and depth of topics. Due to the increased level of math skills, students eligible for Pre-AP Middle School Science must be concurrently enrolled in 7th grade Pre-AP Pre-Algebra or Pre-AP Algebra I, 8th grade Pre-AP Algebra I or Pre-AP Geometry. These mathematic requirements also align with future Pre-AP science course prerequisites in Carroll High and Senior High Schools.
Qualification
All students entering 7th grade Pre-AP Pre-Algebra or 7th grade Pre-AP Algebra I will be automatically enrolled in 7th grade Pre-AP Science. Parents will need to contact the school counselor if they do not wish for their child to be enrolled in Pre-AP Science.
CISD students who pass Pre-AP 7th Grade Science will be placed in 8th Grade Pre-AP Science automatically. Students will only be removed if requested by the parents.
Students who maintain a 92 average or better in regular 7th grade Science and have the necessary math prerequisites, will be allowed to enroll in 8th grade Pre-AP Science if they choose.
