Twelve years ago, an accounting executive decided to leave the business world and venture into the exciting field of education.  After several years serving as a Children’s Pastor and Director of Childhood Education, as well as teaching elementary and middle school students (where he taught his two favorite subjects – math and science), Mike Landers found his way to Johnson Elementary School in January of 2008 where he has the honor of serving as Assistant Principal.

Although born in California, Mr. Landers has spent his entire life in the Hurst, Texas area.  A graduate of L. D. Bell High School, he earned his Bachelor’s Degree at the University of North Texas and Master’s Degree at the University of Texas in Arlington.  Mr. Landers also spends time as a workshop presenter where he trains future teachers and those who are entering the teaching profession for the first time.  He has been a speaker for the National Council of Teacher of Mathematics and the Council for the Advancement of Mathematics Teaching.

In the year 2003, Mr. Landers was recognized as an Elementary Teacher of the Year, as well as nominated for the Disney All-American Teacher in 2004 and Middle School Teacher of the Year in 2005.

Mr. Landers enjoys spending time with his family and volunteering at his church.  He and his wife, Shelli, also an educator, have two children, Matthew and Lauren.

“I am honored to be a part of the Johnson Elementary team!  Please call on me anytime, and share with me how I can serve you and make your experience at JES a memorable one!”

The faculty and staff of Johnson Elementary welcome Mr. Landers to our team.  We are so fortunate to have such a warm and caring person to help educate our children.
