December 7, 2010

Dear JES Families,

As 2010 comes to a close, I want to take a moment to thank you for your continued support of our school. It is hard to believe that our school community has accomplished so much since the start of school just a few months ago!

Our PTO continues to work on behalf of our students and staff supporting our school in countless ways. We are so grateful for all of our parents who work at school and behind the scenes. From Spirit Shop to math facts, copy room to Grandparents’ lunch, we count on the involvement of our parents to make things happen. Thank you.

One recent outreach program, organized by our counselor Ziba Johnston and parent Jenn Welday, brought parents, extended family members, community members, students and staff together to build bikes for the Spokes4Hope Organization. It was an incredible sight to see the multitudes of hands and hearts working together to construct bikes to brighten the holiday season for children in our community and around the metroplex.

Our 4th grade choir, under the direction of Becky Sewell, continues to spread joy through their performances. You may have heard them singing at our Veterans’ Day program or possibly at Southlake Town Square, or more recently at a local retirement home. Whatever the case, I am certain you were impressed with their talent and proud of their accomplishments.

As you drive by our school, you may have noticed that the grounds on the south end of the campus are being prepared for the upcoming construction project. Soon dirt will be moved and concrete poured as our new drive and parking area are constructed. The remodel of the office area, foyer and library will follow along with a redesign of the front drive and parking area. While these projects will cause some inconveniences, we will make every effort to keep things “business as usual” for our students, staff and parents.

I look forward to seeing you in the halls over the course of the next couple of weeks. We hope you enjoy the JES Snow Village that Mike Landers spent hours building for the enjoyment of our school community. Also, be sure to spend a few minutes admiring the photos of our loved ones on the Veterans’ Wall of Honor constructed by Joan Gibbs, 4th grade teacher. She is also credited with directing the 4th graders in their Veterans’ Day play performance. We are so fortunate to have such dedicated staff!

On behalf of your Johnson family, I wish you all a beautiful holiday season! Again, I thank you for all you do to make our school one of the best in the nation. Please do not hesitate to contact me if I can assist you in any way. As always, it’s a great day to be a Dragon!

Sincerely,

Lori Allison
Principal
