Library Services
Our mission
The mission of the Carroll ISD Library Program is to empower learners to graduate as critical thinkers, competent problem solvers, and lifelong learners who contribute productively, creatively, and ethically to society.
This mission is accomplished by
1. Providing access to information and ideas in all formats.
2. Providing a learning environment that fosters competence, creativity, and stimulates interest in reading, viewing, and using information and ideas.
3. Involving students in guided, inquiry-driven research using resources in all formats: traditional, new, and emerging.
4. Collaborating with teachers to plan and teach information literacy to meet the needs of all students.
5. Demonstrating effective leadership strategies in the administration of the library program and in making connections to the broader learning community.
About the library staff
All Carroll ISD libraries are staffed with highly-qualified professionals. Each campus librarian has completed graduate coursework in school librarianship from an American Library Association-accredited university. Also, each librarian is both a State Board Certified Teacher, as well as a State Board Certified School Librarian.
We believe
The Carroll ISD Librarians share with the American Association of School Librarians (AASL) these nine foundational beliefs for teaching the 21st-century learner:
1. Reading is a window to the world.
2. Inquiry provides a framework for learning.
3. Ethical behavior in the use of information must be taught.
4. Technology skills are crucial for future employment needs.
5. Equitable access is a key component for education.
6. The definition of information literacy has become more complex as resources and technologies have changed.
7. The continuing expansion of information demands that all individuals acquire the thinking skills that will enable them to learn on their own.
8. Learning has a social context.
9. School libraries are essential to the development of learning skills.
