Principal's Corner

A Note from Karen…

Welcome to Rockenbaugh Elementary, now in our thirteenth year!  Every member of our staff is ready to face the challenges and reap the rewards that are associated with the important task of educating children. Each day is an adventure… and not for the faint of heart!

Students often ask if I like being the principal, and I always reply, “Absolutely! I have the best job in the world!”  As the instructional leader of Rockenbaugh, I work with students, parents, and staff to provide a supportive learning environment. Sharing the leadership of our school with all stakeholders allows us to work collaboratively to increase the success of our students. The hours are long, the paper work often cumbersome, but I cannot image a more enjoyable, rewarding career. Where else could I work and receive daily smiles and hugs from 517 people in the organization?!

I’ve worked in several schools during my 23 years as an educator, but Rockenbaugh is a unique and exceptional place. Three groups are responsible for our accomplishments, and I’d like to acknowledge the importance of each.

Our students… extraordinary children who are considerate, intelligent, and creative. They have an abundance of enthusiasm, energy, and curiosity that permeate our campus. I don’t think anyone could spend an entire day in an elementary school and leave without smiling at something that happened. Children keep life interesting!

Our parents…our partners in education. They give generously of their time, talents, and financial support. Our resources are increased exponentially through their presence. Our PTO coordinates many valuable campus initiatives, including a weekly newsletter, fundraising for instructional materials and professional learning, staff appreciation luncheons, and on-going volunteer efforts in all areas of our campus…that’s just a small snapshot of their work! We also have Dad’s Club to provide opportunities for fathers to become more involved with campus activities as their schedules permit. Our parents are a cornerstone of our success and we could not accomplish what we do without their assistance.

Our staff…dedicated to continuous learning and the utilization of research-based instructional strategies.   We provide a strong foundation of knowledge and skills that support future educational and professional pursuits. Collaboration and vertical alignment between grade levels ensures a cohesive, progressive curriculum. Decisions focus on doing what is in the best interest of our students. We practice shared accountability and work cooperatively to achieve goals, review our curriculum, and implement instructional practices.

We’re a community of learners, supporting one another as we work together to accomplish great things for our children.
