2007-2008 Year In Review Select From The Following Events
Class 2008 is a class for parents and taxpayers who are interested in learning more about Carroll ISD and its daily operations. Led by Dr. Lowell Strike, the group meet monthly to discuss topics pertinent to CISD and public educaiton.
Gym Floor Ribbon Cutting - Johnson Elementary School Johnson Elementary School recently celebrated the completion of their new synthetic gym floor with a ribbon cutting ceremony. The project was made possible through the support of parent donations and CISD funds.
Mock United Nations Meeting - Eubanks Intermediate Students at Eubanks Intermediate School recently took part in a mock meeting of the United Nations. Students served as representatives from U.N. nations as they discussed world topics.
Work on projects approved in the February 2006 school bond election continues. The most significant projects included a new roof and chilled water HVAC system at Durham Elementary and Intermediate School, expansions at Carroll High School and a new gymnasium at Dawson Middle School. All in all, a total of $24.5 million in projects is being completed districtwide.
Pearl Harbor Speaker - Eubanks Intermediate Eubanks Intermediate School heard first-hand accounts of the day Pearl Harbor was attacked. The veteran is the father of Eubanks Intermediate School teacher Julie McMurrey.
CHS/CSHS Football Games - Dragon Stadium The Carroll Dragons lost only one regular season game as they were once again named District Champions. They eventually lost to Abilene High School by one-point in a heartbreaking playoff game at Texas Stadium.
Dawson 5th Anniversary Celebration Dawson Middle School celebrated its fifth anniversary by remembering the life and legend of the school's namesake, George Dawson. Members of the Dawson family were on hand to celebrate with the Dragons.
Career & Business Expo - Carroll High School The Southlake Chamber of Commerce teamed up with Carroll ISD's counseling department to offer the first ever Career & Business Expo. The event was held in conjunction with Major Mania. Members of the Chamber's Strategic Alliance helped organize the event, which featured student scholarships and business leaders answering students' questions about careers. Those participating included: Sandy Boyd - Capital One; Andrea Becicka - Spine Team Texas; Dr Carolyn and Dr. Brett - Ultimate Chiropractic; Tommy Pennington - Keller Williams; Danielle Richey - Affinity Financial; Mark Guilbert - Chick-fil-A; Greg Last - City of Southlake; Kerry McGeath - City of Southlake; Nichole & Mike Tesoriero - Southlake Style; Jim Forsyth - Fidelity Investments; Diane Lacina & Tammy Ferris - Merrill Lynch; Kevin Hendricks - Hendricks Insurance Agency; and Brian Zvonecek - Texas Insurance Exchange.
Homecoming 2007 - Dragon Stadium More than 10,000 fans enjoyed a warm homecoming night at Dragon Stadium. The hometown Carroll team defeated the Haltom Buffaloes. Derek Tomlin was crowned Homecoming King and Sarah Marshall was crowned Homecoming Queen 2007.
Old Union Elementary Storybook Character Parade Students at Old Union Elementary School displayed their love for reading by dressing up as their favorite storybook characters for their annual book parade.
Carroll Elementary Book Parade Howdy cowboys and cowgirls! Carroll Elementary students used a pioneer/western theme to sport costumes and banners for their favorite books. The Carroll drum corp led the parade around the field outside of Carroll Elementary. Hundreds of parents and siblings watched the young characters march.
Enrollment was slightly lower than expected for the start of the 2007-2008 school year. District officials received good news that Carroll ISD and all of its campuses were rated Exemplary in 2007. In fact, CISD is the only 5A district to receive the state's highest rating.
Carroll employees put on their cowboy hats and spurs for a western-themed kick-off to the 2007-2008 school year. Superintendent David Faltys got into the act by dressing as everybody's favorite sheriff, Woody from Toy Story fame. School Board members joined in the act by saddling up for fun skits and short film clips. Employes enjoyed a two-hour show and a BBQ lunch by We Care sponsor RED, HOT & BLUE.
