ESL Testing for Prekindergarten Eligibility

  • Students who qualify because they are unable to speak and comprehend English may be eligible to attend the Blended Prekindergarten Program free of charge. In order to qualify, a student must indicate that a language other than English is spoken in the home or spoken by the child most of the time on the Home Language Survey completed during the enrollment process.

Students who will be 3 Years Old by September 1st
For those students who completed the lottery process and received a classroom placement as a result of the lottery, English language proficiency testing will be conducted in August. If you are unable to attend the testing sessions as scheduled or your child has not turned 3 years old by the testing date, an alternate testing date will be offered.

For students who request enrollment after the lottery process has been completed or were placed on the waiting list during the lottery process, English language proficiency testing will be conducted if a spot becomes available in the Blended Prekindergarten Program. You will be notified if a spot becomes available.

Students who will be 4 years old by September 1st
For students who complete the registration process, English language proficiency testing will be conducted after August 24th.

Students who move into Carroll ISD throughout the school year and have turned 4 years of age prior to September 1st will be assessed to determine Prekindergarten eligibility on the 1st and 3rd Wednesday of each month. If your child is 4 years of age, you have completed the New Student Online Enrollment and would like to sign up for testing, please call the Department of Special Programs at 817-949-7050.
