Boys Welcome Letter

Parents of Incoming 7th / 8th Grade Athletes, Welcome to Dawson Middle School!

Included in this letter you will find information regarding forms required for DMS Athletics, information regarding DMS Athletic Apparel to be worn daily, as well as some other FAQs that might be helpful.

Every CISD student-athlete must have a cleared medical exam prior to try-outs and participation. You may obtain a physical exam from your doctor but they need to be dated after April 17, 2019 and submitted to DMS before your student may participate in the athletic program.

    •         UIL Acknowledgement of Rules Form
    •         CISD Athletic Participation Release
    •         UIL Concussion Acknowledgement
    •         Travel Release Form (Attached File)
    •         Middle School Handbook Acknowledgment

These forms, along with a physical form, can be found online at

Please Note: Physical forms MUST BE DATED AFTER APRIL 17, 2019. I will not accept any physicals before then. They can be turned into the front office in our drop box.

    Football: (Recommendation)

We recommend that you purchase at least one if not two pairs of  the black football pants with the integrated pads. These are machine washable as is, so there’s no hassle for you having to take the pads out each time you wash them at home. EVERYONE will wear black pants and tall white socks for games. If your son wants to wear the long tights under his pants please be sure they are WHITE.

If you do not wish to purchase Dragon Gear through our Adidas ordering window, we ask the shirts/shorts to not have large logos. Logos need to be within our color schemed 4 colors (green, grey, black, and white).  If you have questions on this, please let us know.

    Summer Preparation:

Performance Course conducts our offseason/summer workouts for our athletes at Carroll Sr. High School during the summer. This is an amazing opportunity for our athletes to get ahead of the game and come into fall being ready to roll. Again, this is not just for football, all sports utilize PC because they train you to be the best athlete possible. Click on the link below to get you son registered for the summer courses!

How will information be communicated to us parents?

We take pride in having open communication between coaches and parents. We will relay any information needed to you via email. With that being said, in order to ensure you receive that information please have all recipients emails listed in Skyward because we pull our email list directly from there.

What if my son plays other sports outside of school?

We love our athletes to be multi-sport! However, if you are a part of the DMS Athletic Program our expectation is that your son is able to attend every practice and every game. Failure to do so is addressed in the Middle School Handbook.

What is the difference between Athletics and PE?

Athletics is much more demanding. It is focused on building our team sports that will continue on up to the high school. All students enrolled in Athletics are required to compete in at least 1 sport. Failure to do so will result in a schedule change after the 1st Semester.

    What sports are cut sports?

Basketball and Track (time qualifying sport) are cut sports. Football and Cross Country are non-cut sports.

Is my son allowed to bring his own equipment?

Yes we do allow athletes to bring their own equipment, as long as it has been inspected by one of us coaches and is up to date on inspections. We do have top of the line equipment available to you if you do not want to purchase your own.
