Athlete Return to Campus Information


  • We believe that it is vital for our athletes, coaches, and programs at Carroll ISD to be allowed the opportunity to participate in athletics; however, our athletes, coaches, and staff are of utmost importance. We are pleased to present this outline to return our student-athletes to their sports on our campuses.  

    The following guidelines were compiled with the assistance of the Carroll ISD athletic administration, Licensed Athletic Trainers, High School Campus Coordinators, and the University of Interscholastic League’s guidelines. The Athletic Department will continue to work closely with the UIL, campus administration, the State of Texas, Tarrant County, and the City of Southlake to ensure that information is accurate and up to date following all guidelines set forth. It is vital to everyone's health and safety that our athletes and staff are fully aware of these guidelines and take them seriously. 

    Key Principles

    • Limit personal interactions- face to face interaction, and person-to-person contact will be limited to essential activities that cannot be performed in an alternative manner. If and when such activities are required, social distancing and other mitigation measures will be
    • Hygiene- Handwashing before, after, and during activities should be practiced and
    • Cleaning and sanitizing- routine cleaning and sanitizing measures will be implemented
    • Screening Procedures for Student-Athletes- Daily symptom and temperature screening assessment will be required for all
      • Staff will continue to screen daily based on CISD Guidelines for teachers and staff.

    Disinfection and Sanitization

    Athletic Facilities

    • Athletic facilities will be disinfected and sanitized per industry standards, continuously before, during, and after CISD practices and events. An emphasis will be placed on high touch surfaces and surfaces that may be used by multiple student-athletes.
    • Athletic equipment will be disinfected and sanitized before, during, and after workout sessions (athletes, coaches, and our custodial staff will all play an important role.)
    • Spray bottles and paper towels or wipes will be available in weight rooms located next to each rack of weights. Athletes will be required to disinfect the bar/equipment after each use. 

    Athletes and Staff

    • Athletes will bring their water bottles and towels. The athletic training staff may only refill water bottles.
    • Hand sanitizer will be available in multiple locations (indoor and outdoor). Athletes and coaches will use hand sanitizer before, during, and after a workout session. 
    • Athletes and coaches will remain 6ft apart when not exercising. 
    • Masks or face coverings are required at all times except when actively exercising or socially distancing.

    Student-Athlete Requirements

    1. CISD Forms- Athletes will be required to have the following on file before athletic participation:
      • Athletic Physical
      • RankOne Online Forms
      • CISD Athletic Daily Screen Questionnaire completed
    2. Screening Process – Daily & BEFORE Arriving at the facility- every student will have filled out a screening questionnaire on their phone. If a student answers "YES" on any question, they will stay at home and call their coach to let them know. 
    3. 6 Foot Rule-Maintain 6 feet between each other, including lifting groups, running groups, and common areas such as restrooms. 
    4. Physical Contact- Limit contact with others, which includes no handshakes, high fives, etc. 
    5. Hydration- Student-athletes are required to bring their own individual labeled water bottles. Athletes are prohibited from sharing water bottles.

    CISD Staff Requirements

    1. Staff will follow guidelines set forth by the district. Also, staff will be required to complete the screening questionnaire before arriving each day. The athletic training staff will check that all staff has completed the questionnaire.
    2. Staff will stay home if they answer “YES” to any screening questions or if they are not feeling well. All staff will contact one of the athletic trainers in the event; this is the case.
    3. Staff will bring their own water bottles. 
    4. A mask or face covering is mandatory. 

    Screening Process Daily 
    All student-athletes are required to complete the online Athletic COVID-19 Daily Screening Questionnaire for symptoms before leaving home, which includes:

    • Any contact with a person who is/was positive for COVID-19; or
    • New or worsening cough or shortness of breath/difficulty breathing; or
    • Fever (subjective or >100); or
    • At least two of: Chills repeated shaking with chills, muscle pain, headache, sore throat, new loss of taste or smell, diarrhea.

    Entry Procedures
    All athletes will enter their campus based on the guidelines set forth by their respective campuses.

    COVID-19 Symptoms, Testing and Management

    • COVID-19 Symptoms or Positive Test
      • Student-athletes who appear to have symptoms or become sick during the day will be immediately separated from other student-athletes/staff and sent home. Directions will be provided by the Athletic Training Staff & campus nurse regarding further protocols. Asymptomatic student-athletes will be managed as a presumptive COVID-19 positive. All precautions will remain in place until a test confirmation has been received, or the student-athlete has obtained documentation from their physician. Student-athletes who are presumed or confirmed COVID-19 positive cannot report to campus until they have fulfilled the requirements set forth by Carroll ISD.
    • Positive Test Confirmed
      • In the case of an individual who has tested positive for COVID-19, the individual may return to school when all three of the following criteria are met:
        • at least three days (24 hours) have passed since recovery (resolution of fever without fever-reducing medication)
        • the individual has improvement in symptoms
        • At least ten (10) days have passed since symptoms first appeared.

    Required by UIL: Student-athletes must receive documentation from their physician before returning to participation in UIL activities.

    Athletic Communication with Parent/Guardian

    • The Athlete Return to Campus Plan will be posted on the CISD Athletic website. 
    • An email will be sent to all parents/guardians outlining the return to campus plan and safety guidelines.
    • Coaches will have a Zoom Parent/Guardian Meeting for their respective sport. 
    • Coaches will educate athletes on the Return to Campus guidelines. 
    • Before the first day of workouts, coaches will have scheduled zoom meetings to go over their coaches and athletes' procedures. 
    • Constant & detailed communication from the district may also be disbursed through the Dragon e-Blast. 

    Key Athletic Operations

    • Athletic practices and contests will be conducted following the guidelines and protocols set forth by UIL, the State of Texas. 
    • Hand Sanitizer stations are strategically placed in athletic facilities, and hand washing will be emphasized before, after, and during activities. 
    • Cleaning of athletic equipment and facilities will take place routinely. 
    • All locker rooms will be utilized according to social distancing, cleaning, and sanitizing guidelines. 
    • All athletic events will be continuously evaluated to minimize the risk of exposure of Covid-19 among student-athletes, staff, teams, and spectators. 
    • If high school athletes choose virtual learning, they are required to attend every practice during the athletic period and before and after school practices to be given credit. Transportation to and from athletic periods or practices will not be provided by CISD and is the student-athlete’s responsibility.
    • If middle school athletes choose DVA learning, they are required to attend practices and workouts before or after DVA athletes who participate in virtual learning are not required to participate in athletic periods during the school day. Middle school coaches will communicate practice and workout times as well as expectations to their athletes.

    Preparing Facilities

    • Sanitizing stations have been installed and placed in predetermined high touch locations in and around athletic facilities. 
    • Social Distancing Signs, Hand Washing Signs, etc., will be placed to emphasize safety measures. 

    Transportation

    • Students enrolled in DVA will be expected to provide their transportation to and from athletic periods and practices. 
    • Coaches will communicate with athletes in advance on travel expectations to and from facilities or athletic events, if applicable. 
    • Masks must be worn during bus transportation. 
    • The athletic department will encourage all students to ride home with their parents after the competition.

    Locker Rooms

    • Athletes entering the locker rooms will be monitored and may be pre-assigned to groups to ensure that the minimal number of athletes are in the locker rooms in a given time. 
      • Every effort will be made to alternate smaller groups in locker rooms to minimize exposure. 
    • Social Distancing measures will be in effect in all locker rooms to the best of our ability. 
    • Athletes are required to wear masks in the locker rooms except for when showering. 
    • Athletes will remove all equipment, towels, and personal belongings from locker rooms daily or weekly based on program guidelines. 
    • High School DVA athletes will come dressed to athletic periods and not utilized locker rooms for dressing or showering. 

    Practices/Games

    • If athletes miss a practice or game due to Covid-19, there will be no consequences but must provide documentation before returning. 
    • Coaches will determine when an athlete is ready to return to play. 
    • All student-athletes will be required to attend all practices and games.
    • Masks must be worn during practices and games unless actively participating in the athletic event, including wearing a mask while sitting on the bench or standing on the sideline.

    Athletic Period
    Coaches will develop sport-specific plans to mitigate the risk of spreading COVID-19, including locker rooms, bus travel, cleaning, equipment,

    Game Attendance 

    • Spectators, audiences, fans, and media are required to wear masks or face coverings.
    • Athletic facilities will be operating on a maximum capacity of 50% occupancy.
    • Groups should maintain six feet distance from other groups. A group is defined as no more than ten (10) people, including members of the household and those persons who traveled together to the facility.
    • CISD Administration and Athletic Department will continuously monitor athletic facilities and events to ensure school personnel, staff, and student-athletes safety. 

    Game Day: Student-Athletes & Coaches
    Temperature checks will be conducted before the competition by the athletic staff. 

    Athletic Contest

    • Celebration Nights will be postponed until further notice. 
    • There will be no spectators, media, or parents on the field or gym floors before or after athletic competitions. All visitors will exit the facility upon the conclusion of the athletic competition. 
    • A limited number of personnel will be on the field or court for the safety of our students and staff. 

    Appendix

    Appendix
