Orientation Information

Join the Best Team—Become a Substitute Teacher at Carroll ISD!

Are you ready to make a difference? Carroll ISD values substitute teachers as essential members of our educational community. Our substitutes play a vital role in maintaining the high standards of instruction our district is known for. Without dedicated substitutes, our faculty couldn't provide the exceptional learning experience expected by our students and community.


Substitute Teacher & Aide Requirements

  • Must be at least 21 years old
  • High school diploma or GED required
  • Complete an online application
  • Attend a substitute orientation

How to Apply & Get Hired

Step 1: Apply Online (Application will re-open June of 2025)

Complete the Substitute Teacher/Nurse application by the listed deadline.

Step 2: Register for Orientation

After submitting your application and two reputable references, you’ll receive an email within 24-48 hours inviting you to register for orientation. All orientations are held at the Carroll ISD Administration Center (2400 N. Carroll Ave, Southlake, TX 76092) unless you choose the online option.

In-Person (10 AM - 2 PM):

Processing for all substitutes occurs on the Friday of the orientation week.

Step 3: Submit Required Documents

Bring the following to your orientation:
  • Driver’s license
  • Social Security card or unexpired passport (Name must match records. If needed, visit SSA.gov for a replacement.)
  • If not a U.S. Citizen: Permanent Resident Card or Employment Authorization Card
Official bachelor’s degree transcripts (if applicable)
  • Must have a university seal & registrar’s signature

  • Copies will not be accepted

  • Electronic transcripts must be sent directly from the university to Substitute.Teachers@southlakecarroll.edu

  • Foreign transcripts require evaluation by an accredited credential service 

Step 4: Attend Orientation

Complete all required training and paperwork.

Step 5: Complete Fingerprinting

Important: As per Senate Bill 9, all substitutes must complete fingerprinting before starting. The cost is $48.25 for non-certified and $50.25 for certified substitutes, paid by the applicant. Do not get fingerprinted before orientation, as you must follow TEA guidelines.

Step 6: Finalize Hiring Process

  • Submit electronic hiring paperwork
  • Nurses will receive additional training with the Head Nurse
  • Complete FERPA & Sexual Harassment training through Region 11
