  • Recorder Information

Fourth grade students will be studying the recorder as part of the Music curriculum this year. Playing the recorder is a fun, exciting and hands-on way to begin reading music. The recorder is one of the oldest woodwind instruments. Today the recorder is made of plastic and is used in many music classrooms as a beginning instrument. Students will be exposed to reading standard musical notation as well as instrument fingering and technique. Beginning in March, students should bring their recorders to every music class.

This year, we will NOT be ordering recorders through the school.

Recorders are needed in music class beginning

    Tuesday, March 3, 2020.

Please use one of the following options to purchase a recorder. There are many different kinds of recorders out there so please be cautious when purchasing and double check that it is listed as a soprano recorder with baroque fingering. Stay away from buying recorders at big box stores as sometimes they may look the same but they do not sound the same as the other recorders. This can lead to students feeling unsuccessful in their recorder progress if they are doing everything technically correct but are not getting the same response.

I understand that Amazon is a favorite of many so please be sure to plug in the following in the search engine:

Yamaha YRS-24B (Soprano Recorder with Baroque Fingering) OR

Yamaha YRS-20 (Soprano Recorder with Baroque Fingering).

Please keep in mind that you can purchase a recorder using the following links for around $5 (not including shipping.)
