  • One Book, One School

From October 30 to November 16, the elementary schools of the Carroll school district will be engaging in an all-school book club called One Book, One District.  We are excited about this opportunity for every family at JES and the families at all the other elementary campuses!  We are asking families to take about 15 minutes each evening to read aloud Betty Birney's School Days According to Humphrey at home during this time.

One District, One Book is a unique program in that children at all grade levels will be listening to the same book at home.  During these weeks, classroom teachers, children, office staff, encore teachers, everyone will be talking about this book!  To prepare your child to be an effective reader, reading professionals recommend reading books out loud that are beyone your child's own reading level.  We believe that you should continue reading chapter books with your older children even when they are able to read by themselves.  With this in mind, we have selected a title that can be followed, understood, and enjoyed by younger students but that will still captivate and stimulate older children.

    What you need to know:

ONLINE ORDERS ONLY. Ordering begins via Ticket Tracker on Monday, Sept. 25 - Friday, October 6.  This is not a fundraiser.  The books are being offered to you at our cost.  Click this link or this one to order.

Monday, October 30 - Books will be delivered this day.  The reading schedule will be passed out, about 10-15 pages each night, but reading only occurs on Monday - Thursday evenings.

Monday, October 30 - Thursday, November 16: Families follow reading schedule.

Daily at school: Trivia questions will be read over morning announcements about the previous night's reading (to encourage and reward participation).
