This year’s event, also known as the 6th Annual Dragon Dash, brought together over 380 Special Olympics athletes ranging from ages 8 to 22. The meet featured 11 delegations from across North Texas, highlighting the power of community and the spirit of competition.
Volunteers from the football team, JV cheer squad, cross country team, basketball team, PALs program, and Dragon Media program played a key role in making the event a success. From timing races to running relays alongside athletes, students demonstrated what it means to support one another on and off the field.
Ashley Poteet, Carroll ISD’s Adapted PE teacher and head of the Special Olympics delegation, reflected on the impact of the event:
"This track meet is one of my favorite days of the year. It’s incredible to watch our athletes shine, and just as inspiring to see the way our student volunteers show up with energy, compassion, and respect. This is what true belonging looks like."
The Dragon Dash not only showcased athletic talent but also served as a reminder that true victory comes from courage, character, and community. And with that, we were excited to announce that Special Olympics is now supported by the Carroll Athletic Booster Club (CABC)—a significant step in promoting belonging and opportunity within Dragon Nation.
