Announcing the Carroll ISD 2026 Valedictorian and Salutatorian!

Carroll ISD proudly recognizes two exceptional seniors from Carroll Senior High School as the Class of 2026 Valedictorian and Salutatorian, students whose academic excellence, leadership, and dedication have set them apart among their peers.

Akhil SanapalaVenkata has earned the distinction of Valedictorian, an honor that reflects years of sustained academic achievement, intellectual curiosity, and an unwavering commitment to excellence. Throughout his high school career, Akhil has pursued the most rigorous coursework available, excelling in advanced STEM classes while maintaining the top academic ranking in his class. His passion for learning extends beyond the classroom, as he has engaged in advanced research at the intersection of computational biology, applied mathematics, and machine learning. As a research intern at Texas Christian University, Akhil develops mathematical and computational models to evaluate antiviral drug efficacy in SARS-CoV-2 infections.

In addition to his academic pursuits, Akhil has demonstrated a strong commitment to leadership and service. As President of the Southlake Foundation, he has led education- and career-focused initiatives impacting hundreds of students, including organizing an annual gala supporting the American Legion and its Career Connection programs. He has also volunteered with JPS Health Network, coordinated CPR training for more than 100 students, and mentored younger learners as a Kumon Math and Reading tutor. Looking ahead, Akhil plans to pursue computational and applied mathematics with a focus on machine learning, with the long-term goal of earning a Ph.D. and advancing research that improves human health through equitable, data-driven solutions.

William Tian Zhang has been named Salutatorian for the Class of 2026, recognized for his outstanding academic performance and commitment to both scholarship and extracurricular excellence. A National Merit Finalist, William has pursued a strong academic path in science, with particular interests in biology, chemistry, and mathematics. He has further developed these interests through participation in the Carroll Medical Academy and advanced coursework at Carroll ISD.

Beyond the classroom, William has distinguished himself as a leader in athletics, serving as captain of the Carroll Dragon Men’s Swimming & Diving team. He has competed at both the Winter and Summer Junior National Championships, demonstrating dedication, discipline, and perseverance at the highest levels of competition. In addition, William has contributed to his community through volunteer work and internship experiences. He plans to attend University of Texas at Austin, where he will major in biochemistry.

Principal Shatina Lewis praised both students for their remarkable achievements and character.

“I want to congratulate Akhil and William on being the Valedictorian and Salutatorian,” Lewis said. “Becoming a valedictorian and salutatorian doesn't just happen in a moment; it takes years. Years of hard work, dedication, resilience, and choosing rigorous courses. We are so proud of their character, who they've become, and their journey moving forward. Congratulations, Akhil and William!”

Carroll ISD celebrates these two outstanding Dragons for their accomplishments and looks forward to the impact they will make in the years ahead.
