Southlake Carroll Water Polo Teams Make Waves Heading into the Playoffs Undefeated

Southlake Carroll Water Polo Teams Enter Playoffs as District Champions

The Southlake Carroll Boys and Girls Water Polo teams are riding a wave of momentum into the postseason, both undefeated in district play and positioned as top contenders for a state title.

“I think we’re putting a pretty good product in the pool,” said Head Coach Justin Pudwill. The team’s short history speaks for itself. Last year, the girls advanced to the state semifinals, while the boys reached the regional finals.

Since water polo became a UIL-sanctioned sport in 2022, Carroll has quickly established itself as one of the most respected programs in Texas. The girls’ team has qualified for the UIL State Tournament every year, while the boys’ team continues to rank among the state’s elite competitors.

This year’s squads are powered by a strong core of returning leaders, rising underclassmen, and year-round club athletes. Their fast-paced, high-energy style keeps opponents off balance and has delivered dominant results on both sides of the ball.

The Dragon water polo players are also leaders in the classroom. Eight members of the team were named Academic All-Americans last year for earning individual GPAs of 4.0 or higher.

Carroll’s success in the pool is built on relentless preparation and teamwork — from early morning practices and intense training sessions to a shared focus on discipline and execution. The Dragons play with intensity, skill, and heart, and it shows in every match.

“Coach Justin is really good at making sure our strengths shine and that we use them to our advantage,” said senior attacker Riya Erasani, adding that this year’s team brings new versatility. “It’s a different way of playing, but it’s going to be really exciting and fun to watch.”

As water polo continues to grow statewide — with more than 300 teams now competing across Texas — Southlake Carroll remains at the forefront, with both programs focused, battle-tested, and ready to make a deep run toward the UIL State Tournament.
