Carroll ISD Celebrates Music In Our Schools Month

Strike up the band, the drumline, the jazz orchestra, and the choir—Carroll ISD is alive with musical talent.

March is Music In Our Schools Month (MIOSM), a time to recognize the powerful impact music education has on students and school communities across the country. In Carroll ISD, music is more than a program—it is a source of excellence, pride, and growth for students at every level.

Carroll ISD’s music department continues to earn recognition on some of the biggest stages in the nation. Most recently, the nationally ranked Carroll Indoor Percussion took first place at the NTCA Chisholm Trail Percussion Contest. Next month, they will represent Dragon Nation at the North Texas Championship and the WGI World Championships in Dayton, Ohio.

The Carroll Winterguard will compete this weekend at the 2026 NTCA SA & SO Prelims at The Colony High School, followed by Finals in Coppell. They will also travel to Dayton, Ohio, to compete in the World Championships.

Carroll’s Choir Department is also earning accolades, with four ensembles set to perform at the UIL Concert & Sight-Reading Choir Tournament next week. Recently, Carroll Show Choir students returned from Show Choir Nationals in Nashville, where sophomore Ben Lee earned Outstanding Male Soloist honors. He also received Outstanding Soloist recognition at the 2026 Cowtown Classic Show Choir Invitational in February.

Carroll’s choir program continues to make history, becoming the first from Texas to perform at Show Choir Nationals and one of the few Texas high school choirs to perform at the Grand Ole Opry.

At the 2026 Lone Star Show Choir Invitational, Carroll earned the first-ever award for Best Costume Design, while its newest show choir, The Carrollers, received the People’s Choice Award and placed fourth overall in their division.

The momentum continues as Carroll’s concert band prepares to take the stage on Friday, April 3, at the prestigious Meyerson Symphony Center. Both the Carroll Wind Symphony and Wind Ensemble will perform as part of the Dallas Winds Festival.

The following day, Carroll’s Jazz Orchestra will travel to Austin to perform at the Longhorn Jazz Festival at Bates Recital Hall on the University of Texas campus.

In preparation for an even bigger stage, the Jazz Orchestra recently worked with renowned jazz trumpeter and educator Pharez Whitted, who led a specialized workshop ahead of their trip to the Essentially Ellington Competition and Festival in May.

This elite event features only the top high school jazz ensembles in the world, placing Carroll ISD among the very best in global music education.

Performing in premier concert halls and competing at this level is a testament to the exceptional talent of Carroll’s student musicians and the strength of the district’s music program.

Music education in Carroll ISD provides students with opportunities to grow creatively, build discipline, collaborate with peers, and perform at the highest levels. During Music In Our Schools Month, we celebrate not only these outstanding achievements, but also the teachers, directors, and families who support our students every step of the way. 🎶🐉
