Carroll ISD Odyssey of the Mind Teams Shine at State, Advance to World Finals

Carroll ISD students showcased exceptional creativity and problem-solving skills at the state level of Odyssey of the Mind, earning multiple top finishes and several bids to the World Finals.

Odyssey of the Mind is an international academic competition that challenges teams of students to solve complex problems through engineering, performance, and teamwork. Students spend months designing solutions, building structures, writing scripts, and preparing presentations, all while working within strict guidelines and time limits. Success at the state level reflects not only talent, but also perseverance, collaboration, and innovative thinking.

This year, Carroll ISD teams delivered an outstanding performance across all divisions and problem categories.

In Problem 1: Off the Rails, Division II, Eubanks Intermediate School captured 1st place and will advance to the World Finals, while Durham Intermediate placed 6th. In Division I, Old Union Elementary earned 4th place, Rockenbaugh Elementary placed 5th, and Carroll Elementary finished 8th.

In Problem 2: Lost in OMERland, Johnson Elementary secured a strong 4th-place finish in Division I.

Carroll ISD saw major success in Problem 3: The Epic Quest. Rockenbaugh Elementary earned 1st place in Division I and will advance to Worlds. At the secondary level, Carroll Senior High School claimed 1st place in Division III, also advancing. Durham Intermediate placed 5th and Carroll Middle School placed 7th in Division II.

Problem 4: Life’s a Ball! proved to be one of the District’s strongest events. Carroll Senior High School earned another 1st-place finish in Division III, while Carroll High School followed closely with 2nd place—both teams advancing to the World Finals. Eubanks Intermediate placed 2nd in Division II and will also move on. Walnut Grove Elementary rounded out Division I with a 6th-place finish.

In Problem 5: Taller Tales of John Jivery, Durham Intermediate secured 2nd place and a trip to the World Finals, while Carroll Elementary placed 10th.

In total, Carroll ISD will send seven teams to the Odyssey of the Mind World Finals, where they will compete against top teams from across the United States and around the globe. The event, typically held at a major university campus, brings together thousands of students representing dozens of countries in a celebration of creativity and innovation.

These results highlight the strength of Carroll ISD’s academic enrichment programs and the District’s commitment to developing critical thinking, collaboration, and real-world problem-solving skills. From elementary to high school, Dragons continue to demonstrate that learning extends far beyond the classroom—reaching the global stage.
