Carroll ISD UIL Academic Team Claims Back-to-Back District Championship, Advances 26 to Regionals

Carroll ISD’s UIL Academic team delivered an exceptional performance at the district meet on Saturday, March 28, 2026, earning the district championship for the second consecutive year and continuing the District’s tradition of academic excellence.

District-Wide Excellence Across All Events

Competing against eight other schools, Carroll students placed in the top six in every academic category they entered, an impressive display of depth, consistency, and high-level achievement. The victory also contributes four points toward the UIL Lone Star Cup, which recognizes the top overall academic, athletic, and fine arts programs in Texas based on year-long performance.

Organized by the University Interscholastic League (UIL), academic competitions challenge students across a wide range of subjects, requiring advanced knowledge, critical thinking, and strong preparation. Carroll’s results reflect both individual excellence and a comprehensive team effort across all disciplines.

Standout Performances Lead the Way

The Dragons delivered dominant performances across multiple events, underscoring both their preparation and commitment. As Natalie Brown, Current Issues, Spelling, and Journalism Academic UIL Coach and Journalism Teacher at Carroll Senior High School, shared, “I am incredibly proud of the dedicated students who take time out of their already very busy schedules to compete in UIL Academics. These competitions require such a vast amount of knowledge in their chosen subjects that placing in the top six at the district meet shows tremendous talent.”

That talent was on full display throughout the competition. The Computer Science team achieved a clean sweep, claiming all top six individual placements and securing a first-place team finish, while the Science team posted some of the highest top scores in program history. Brown noted that “the kids took it one step further this year by placing in the top six in every single event Carroll competed in,” highlighting the team’s across-the-board excellence.

Carroll’s Journalism team also delivered a remarkable showing, claiming 10 of the 15 advancing spots in the district with multiple first-place finishes across writing and editing categories. “Additionally, our Computer Science team took all top six spots, our Science team had the highest top scores we’ve ever seen at District, and the Journalism team took 10 of the 15 advancing spots in the district,” Brown said. “Just incredible work from these kids.”

Mathematics, Number Sense, and Current Issues and Events each earned first-place team honors, advancing all competitors to the regional meet. In total, 26 Carroll students qualified for the Regional Meet, scheduled for April 24-25.

A Tradition of Academic Excellence

This continued success highlights the dedication of Carroll students and the leadership of an outstanding coaching staff, including Anthony Brown, Natalie Brown, Kelly Coughlin, Heather Pedigo, Carl Stovall, and Steve Wallace.

As these students prepare to compete at the regional level, Carroll ISD celebrates their hard work, determination, and pursuit of excellence, both in and out of the classroom.
