Carroll ISD Visual Arts Students Receive Honors at State Competition

Carroll ISD art students earned statewide recognition following an outstanding performance at the 2026 Visual Arts Scholastic Event (VASE), one of the most competitive art competitions in Texas.

At this year’s state event, 151 Carroll student artworks were awarded the prestigious Gold Seal, the highest honor given at VASE. Leading the group were three Gold Seal recipients: sophomores Brooke Young and Emily Liu, and senior Lauryn McCue.

“Carroll had a record-breaking year,” said Emily Trammell, Carroll Senior High School art teacher. "We are incredible proud of the dedication, creativity, and growth these students demonstrate as they represent Carroll across Texas."

In addition to Gold Seal honors, Carroll students earned highly selective scholarship recognition. Freshman Grace Engleking and sophomore Lilly Bella were recognized for their outstanding artistic achievement.

The district also celebrated seniors Lauryn McCue and Katie Shang, who qualified for and attended State VASE all four years of high school, an impressive accomplishment that highlights sustained excellence.

Carroll students advanced to the state level after strong performances at the regional competition in March, where a record number of students earned top ratings. Of more than 32,000 entries statewide, only about 2,100 advanced to state competition.

Students across all divisions also earned Superior ratings, demonstrating the depth and strength of Carroll ISD’s visual arts program.

The success at VASE reflects Carroll ISD’s continued commitment to fostering creativity and supporting students in the fine arts.
