Carroll UIL Academic Team Advances to State After Strong Region Meet Performance
Recently, the Carroll UIL Academic Team traveled to Walnut Grove High School to compete in the Region meet. After earning top-three placements at the district level to advance, 22 talented students represented Carroll ISD across 11 challenging events. The team’s dedication and hard work paid off, delivering impressive results.
Journalism Team Triumphs
Carroll’s journalism team brought home the championship trophy in the team category, with senior Pragnya Kaginele and junior Nandita Shetty earning spots at the State meet in Austin on May 19.
- Nandita Shetty placed third in copy editing, third in news writing, and is the first alternate for headline writing. Additionally, she placed sixth in both editorial and feature writing, making her a top-six finisher in every journalism event at the meet.
- Pragnya Kaginele, the reigning 6A state champion in news writing, secured first place in news writing and is the first alternate for both feature and editorial writing.
Both students also serve as editors for The Dragon Tribune, the online news site at dragonmedia.org.
Science and Computer Science Teams Excel
Carroll’s science and computer science teams also performed exceptionally well at the region meet:
- Science Team: Kavya Athipatla, Aarav Agarwal, and Artemis Le placed third as a team, competing in one of the most challenging regions.
- Computer Science Team: Benjamin Conley, Xing Sun, Connor Thompson, and Xander Oehlerts also earned a third-place team finish.
Special thanks go to the UIL Academic Coaches—Anthony Brown, Natalie Brown, Kelly Coughlin, Heather Pedigo, Carl Stovall, and Steven Wallace—who devoted time after school and on weekends to support the team.
