Dragon Cheerleaders Showcase Dedication and Drive in Recent Meet

Strength, stamina and spirit.

Dragon cheerleaders needed all three this month, with athletic playoffs underway and the kickoff of their own competitive season. They're off to a strong start.

Dragon Cheer had an exceptional performance at the NCA North Texas Regional Meet in Rockwall on November 16, taking 3rd place in the weekend competition. Their success highlights the dedication and discipline required during countless hours of practice.

"Every athlete in our program shows up with talent, passion and grit," said Stephanie Fuller, Dragon Cheer Director. "Their drive to support one another and improve as a team truly sets our Dragon Cheer program apart."

She supervises 27 Varsity and 25 Junior Varsity cheerleaders. Of that roster, 30 represent Carroll ISD in Cheer competitions, with six alternates available during the season. They all have had to balance demanding academic schedules with Dragon Football and Volleyball playoff calendars and cheer practice.

"We want to make our school proud every time we step on the mat," said Marlee Fraser, Cheer Co-Captain. "Our goal is to lead with heart, lift each other up and represent Dragon Nation with everything we've got."

The NCA North Regional is a cheerleading competition for high school and middle school teams, organized by the National Cheerleaders Association (NCA), a Varsity Spirit brand. Regional competitions serve as qualifying events for the larger NCA High School Nationals.

The NCA competitive season is separate from the UIL, or University Interscholastic League, cheer season, which begins in the spring. UIL events help Carroll ISD in the Lone Star Cup competition, which recognizes Texas schools with the highest overall team performance across a variety of academic, athletic, and fine art categories.

"It's a lot," says Fuller. "This is our busiest time of year."

Dragon Cheer trains for both competitions to sharpen skills, elevate stunts and strengthen teamwork as they progress.

In the coming months, these student athletes have several important events scheduled. Everyone in Dragon Nation is invited to attend and cheer on the cheerleaders.

Upcoming Events:

  • December 7, 2025 – Hearts for the Holidays at Marcus High School (Lewisville ISD)

  • January 8, 2026 – Dragon Cheer Show-Offs, 6 PM at Carroll Senior High School

  • January 17, 2026 – UIL State Competition at the Fort Worth Convention Center

  • January 24, 2026 – NCA High School Nationals at the Fort Worth Convention Center

Clearly, this team has a busy season ahead and will continue to represent Carroll ISD with passion and pride, on the field or on the gym floor. "We know that we are some of the most visible ambassadors for the District," said Fuller, "and we show that pride every time we cheer."
