Southlake Carroll's Caden Leonard Secures Double Gold at State Track Meet

AUSTIN, Texas — Southlake Carroll junior Caden Leonard delivered a standout performance at the 2025 UIL Class 6A State Track and Field Championships on May 3, capturing gold medals in both the 3200-meter and 1600-meter events. With these two wins at state, adding to his individual title in cross country earlier this school year, Leonard has officially clinched the UIL Class 6A distance "Triple Crown"—a rare and prestigious feat achieved by only a select few in Texas high school history.

Leonard began his day with the 3200-meter run, clocking in at 8:57.98. He secured the victory with a strong final lap of 56.32 seconds, outpacing competitors Aidan Torres and Benjamin Montgomery, who finished in 8:58.28 and 8:58.35, respectively. Later that evening, Leonard returned to the track for the 1600-meter race, winning with a time of 4:10.18.

Senior Bowen Fleming also represented Carroll ISD at the state meet, earning a fourth-place finish in the boys' shot put event. His performance contributed valuable points to the team's overall total.

Thanks to these efforts, Carroll ISD secured fourth place in the overall team standings at the state meet. This achievement caps off a remarkable season for the Dragons, who also celebrated a state championship in boys' cross country earlier in the year.

Reflecting on the team’s success, head boys’ coach Robert Drake shared, “Caden is such a talented young man. To win a state championship in a single event is rare. To win two in the same day is so special. Not sure when it was last done at the 6A level.”

As the Dragons conclude their track and field season, the program looks ahead with pride and momentum, driven by this year’s accomplishments and the promise of even greater things to come.
